Beach - Sunday morning.
Kaidan took himself off for a run along the beach Sunday morning. The weather had finally broken so it was cool enough in the earlier hours that it didn't feel like running through warm soup. His brain was doing its hamster wheel thing, so he let his body do its thing and find an easy loping pace.
There were little.. bird.. things.. on the ground. That was a hazard he hadn't previously encountered on the beach, so his jog wound up something more akin to free-running when he dodged or jumped them. After a few minutes, Kaidan just gave into it and started actually free-running, launching himself up and over larger rocks in various flavors of flips and leaps. He'd never have the kind of fluid grace Kanan would bring to something like this, since he cheated and used the Force for it, but he did it with the ease of long practice. It had become part of his training routine a long time ago. He just didn't normally do it on the beach.
A day for different things.

phone pinging ignore icon, Male!Kaidan still onboard for this.Kaidan grinned and adjusted his speed to synch up with Liam. "They run right under your feet, or try to, otherwise. When did we get new bird things? They weren't here last week, I'd have noticed."

"Ah," Kaidan said, "Hitchhikers. Well, let me know if it gets to the point we have to start doing a trap and release altering program on them. Maybe we'll get lucky and they have a small or slow birthrate."
ha. Nobody was ever that lucky with invasive species.

“On a personal level, I’m concerned about what would happen to any of them dumb enough to get too close to my apartment.” They were dumb and made of meat, the mice would absolutely devour them if they impinged on their territory.

"Why.. ah. Ah, right," Kaidan nodded, "Is there any conversation you can have with the sentients? Since these little porg buddies kinda seem dumb as stumps?" Cute, not bright.

"Offer an exchange?" Kaidan mused, "Maybe.. they don't eat the porg and you pick up one of the ready-to-eat roast chickens for them from the deli? That has to taste better, at the very least."
Maybe? He didn't know about mouse appetites.

Also one roast chicken would not do the trick; there would absolutely be regular roast chickens. “Maybe the porgs wont even come near the apartment and it won’t be an issue,” Liam said, with forced cheer. One could hope!

"Liam," Kaidan kind of chuckled, "It's adorable, how your hope triumphs over your experiences here."

"And I'm in awe of your ability to stay one, here," Kaidan teased him, grinning.

Yes, the optimism had functioned as essentially a survival mechanism, for him.

"That's true enough," Kaidan agreed easily, "I'm trying to be better about it. Some luck. Not as much as I'd like."

"Anniversary of my Commander's death coming up," Kaidan said, frowning, "If I go into it a mess, it's only going to make everything worse. So.. I'm trying. We'll see how it goes, I guess."
