The stereo was playing heavy metal music from the 80s. It wasn't Breq's favourite music by a long shot, but it gave her the opportunity to pick up one of the basses and try to play along. Not entirely successfully, but it was a good distraction, and the mood she was in required some of that.
The Christmas tree in the corner was still there, today offering a light show accompanying the music.
