The warehouse that has been borrowed- Friday afternoon

Rey was waiting outside the warehouse today. It felt like cheating to go in and see what had been done in there before Anakin got here, so until then she took a seat in front of the door with the lightsaber burn while bundled up in her Jedi cloak, and pulled one of the books out of her bag to go through in the meantime.

As images went, it was surprisingly heavy-handed.

Mwahahaha. Anakin had put in some work over the last week. He sauntered up, looking decidedly pleased with himself. "Hello."

"How worried should I be?" Rey asked, closing the book and looking up at him.

She'd been looking forward to this all week.

[sith_happened]

"Not terribly," Anakin said, "but be sure to duck going into the room. The remotes are waiting for you."

"I am really glad I didn't just walk in," Rey realized, eyes a little wide.

She put the book back in her bag and stood up.

"That's why I did it," Anakin said, smirking.

[thatwaslucky]

"You did have too much fun with this," Rey said, hand still in her bag. "Lightsaber our to start?"

[sith_happened]

"At least at hand," Anakin said. "You don't always need to go in weapons blazing, but it's not a terrible habit to get into."

Rey slung the bag over her shoulder, lightsaber in hand. "Do you mean that about just the warehouse, or in general?" ,

[sith_happened]

"In general," Anakin admitted, smiling a little sheepishly.

[thatwaslucky]

"Okay." She wasn't sure that was her style, but she'd take it under advisement. "Anything else I need to know before going in?"

"Probably," Anakin said, eyes twinkling, "but I'm not telling you any more."

[thatwaslucky]

"I should have known you'd say that," Rey said, opening the door.

And immediately sidestepping a blaster bolt from a remote as soon as she stepped inside.

That might've been because she knew it was coming.

Anakin smiled approvingly but didn't offer any advice, content to see how she did on her first run through.

"Right," Rey said, and dropped her stuff at the door, igniting the lightsaber and figuring the best idea was to just go.

She was usually faster, but she was also studying the course, being a little more careful because it was her first time through. Blaster bolts she could deflect easily enough at first. She wasn't sure she appreciated the barrels that came down the ramp at her, but she was able to jump over one and sidestepped the second so close to the edge that it was probably a surprise she didn't go over. Anything where she had to use her hands on the ropes meant she had to switch the lightsaber off because that was not a skill she was going to master on first go, which also meant she took a few shots from the remotes (which she'd decided she hated, and also that they hated her right back).

The lightsaber went on again pretty quick after that.

If anything swung at her, her instinct was to duck or sidestep it and move on as quickly as possible, though one of them knocked her down. Balancing was no problem at all. When she got to the rope she had to walk across, there was maybe a split second's hesitation before deciding that the best move was probably to trust momentum, that Anakin wasn't going to build something that would hurt her, and she'd done scarier stuff.

All in all it was a solid first try with room for improvement, and seriously she hated those removes and was rubbing at her shoulder when she got back down and finished the course.

"Not a bad first attempt," Anakin said, which was high praise from him.

"I don't like remotes," Rey stated.

Anakin laughed. "They sting, don't they?"

[thatwaslucky]

"And they never seem to sting less," she noticed.

[sith_happened]

"They can sting more," Anakin said helpfully. "I turned them down."

[thatwaslucky]

"You're going to end up turning them back up, aren't you?"

Rey was figuring him out.

[sith_happened]

Anakin grinned. "Of course I am."

[thatwaslucky]

"Of course." She shut down the lightsaber and looked around the course. "You did a good job."

[sith_happened]

"Thank you," Anakin said. "I ran through it myself a few times."

[thatwaslucky]

"How did you do?"

She was making a mental bet with herself.

Anakin smirked. "Extremely well, thank you."

[thatwaslucky]

"Is there anything that still gives you a problem?"

She was curious.

[sith_happened]

"Holding back," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

""Do you need to?" Because she kind of felt like he wouldn't tell her to do that.

[sith_happened]

"Sometimes, a situation needs finesse, not all the brute force you can throw at it," Anakin said. "I am not good in those situations."

[thatwaslucky]

"So how do you handle it when you're in one of those situations?"

Apparently Rey liked getting other perspectives on this stuff.

"For many years, I counted on Obi-Wan," Anakin admitted with a tiny smile.

[thatwaslucky]

"And otherwise?" Rey asked.

[sith_happened]

"Generally, I did...less well in those situations," Anakin hedged.

[thatwaslucky]

"So, if I were maybe not great in those situations," she said, because she did not think she would be either, "how should I handle that?"

Maybe don't let a lot of people try to seduce Krampus.

"By taking a little time to breathe and assess," Anakin said.

[thatwaslucky]

"And that... gives clarity?" Rey guessed.

[sith_happened]

"It certainly helps," Anakin said.
