Furnado Animal Shelter; Friday [03/13].

Who had two thumbs, several fins, so many wonderful stories about the Philippines and all the wonderful marine life and incredibly fancy tanks he saw while on vacation that he was very thrilled to share with the fish at the shelter that Friday while he gave the tanks there a good cleaning?

THIS GUY!

Of course, he did have to handle and settle down all the dogs and cats and hamsters and birds and lizards and chickens that were very clearly happy to see him back again, too, before he could get to that, but it was rather uplifting to see that he had been missed!

Even if, at least as far as the cats were concerned, it was just because it was good to have reassurance that their emergency food supply was back.

Furnado is open!

It had been weeks and weeks since she'd talked to the other guy about a pet for her store and Alluka was still thinking about it, so when she saw Furnado was open, well, she just had to go in.

"Good morning!" she said brightly as she entered, looking around.

Ah-ha! A guest! Sidon was to his feet quickly, and, with a swift apology and to be continued! to the fish he was regaling with various vacation stories, then hurried to the front of the shelter so he could properly greet the customer.

"Good morning!" he greeted back, with a bright flash of a toothy smile and a pump of his fist, before opening his arms in a gesture of welcome. "And hello! Welcome to Furnado Animal Shelter! How may I be of service to you and your wonderful furry, scaly, or feathered friends today?"

Honestly, he was so incredibly tall that he could have just stayed on the ground and they'd have been closer in height than they were now.

Still, Alluka just beamed as she craned her neck back.

"Um, well," she said hopefully, "I was hoping to make a new, cute friend today?"

Ah, yes, but it was terribly rude, wasn't it, to remain seated when speaking with someone? Unless you were king, of course, in which case, it couldn't really be avoided, since you were probably too big to stand!

"Spectacular!" he said, his arms opening again as if he couldn't contain all the excitement within him at this. "That is marvelous! Because, what luck!, we just so happen to have many new, cute friends awaiting companionship! Tell me, though: do you already have an idea of what kind of cute you were hoping for your new friend to be? Or did you need to seek out some inspiration?"

Alluka found his enthusiasm rather comforting, really. It was an awful lot to deal with but it was also very nice to know, undoubtably, that he was incredibly excited for her and for any new friend she might make.

"Well," she said, "I was hoping to find a new friend for the shop Pixie Dust! So I was kind of thinking someone that wouldn't be likely to ruin clothes?"

"What a splendid idea!" Sidon remarked, laughing a little as his eyes brightened just thinking about it. "But, then again, when is a new friend for anywhere ever anything else? I suppose..." Here, he took a moment to look thoughtful, striking his chin a little, "the best friend in that case, to ensure that the clothes were kept untouched and unruined, would be something that preferred to be contained in some fashion, such a lizard, or a hamster, or a fish...

"Though I must confess," he added with a hearty chuckle, "I am a bit biased toward that last one myself..."

Despite herself, she giggled.

"We used to have a fish," Alluka shared. "Her name was Milady and she's off having grand adventures in space now!"

Well, no. She was with Sparkle, but Alluka didn't know that.

"So, so even though I like fish, maybe something different this time? What's a hamster?"

"Oh," Sidon's grin somehow managed to widen from the thrill of getting to potentially introduce a new friend not only to other new friends, but to a whole new kind of new friend, "they are fantastic! They are but tiny balls of fluff that possess the most adorable little paws and whiskers, and they are some of the most intrepid climbers have ever seen for creatures so minuscule! They are incredible burrowers, as well, and they absolutely adore adventuring through labyrinthine tunnels of crystalline colored plastics!

"But my paltry words of praise can hardly do the cuddly little fellows justice!" he added with a laugh, before swinging his arm in the air for the girl to follow him as he headed energetically toward the hamster habitats. "Come! Witness for yourself! I know they will be overjoyed to see a new face!"

Loving adventures, cuddles, and being adorable?

"I love them already," Alluka gushed, cheerfully following the absolutely enormous fish-man. "Um, um I'm Alluka, by the way! Do they really go on adventures?"

"Alluka!" Sidon repeated joyfully, pausing in front of the hamster habitats and turning back to her with another grin. "Wonderful! How very nice to meet you! I am Sidon!" Fist Pump! Bigger Grin! Fang Sparkle! "The Zora Prince!"

He would never not love that!

"And yes!" his enthusiasm continued with barely a stop, as he gestured toward the hamsters and their colorful boxes and tubes and tunnels. "They are spectacular adventurers, given they have plenty to explore, but, as you can see, Prompto and I have made certain the hamsters here would have no lack of thrilling adventures to pursue!"

The massive tumble of habitats looked like a colorful, meandering tangle, as one might expect when each of them seemed to take turn adding something different each week, trying to outdo each other.

....they weren't very busy, no.

"They are also," he added, "incredible nappers, too! Adventure hard, burrow hard, sleep hard! That's the hamster way!"

"Woah!" she said, her eyes caught first by all the strange, colourful habitats that were built around this area. "And they love playing in all of these?"

Wait--

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Alluka said. "Should I bow? Would that be more polite? I didn't realize you were a prince!"

She'd get to the hamsters.

"The more of these little tunnels that they have," Sidon informed her confidently, "the happier they are! And I assure you, Alluka, there's no need for such formalities among new friends! I assure you, there is no need for bows and the like!"

"Oh, good!" she said, delighted about the lack of formality and having made a new friend. "And--oh! But they're adorable!"

She'd gotten to the hamsters.

And it was about time! At least one of the hamsters had gotten to them, too, little paws pressed up against the wall of his habitat, little nose lifted and sniffing the air in interest.

"I was hoping that you might think so!" Sidon beamed, as if the hamster's adorableness was something he had a personal hand in. "Though I could hardly imagine anyone might not! They could make for wonderful shop companions for...what did you say it was called again? Pixie Dust?"

"Yes, Pixie Dust!" she said, as she peered at the small cutie. "The clothing store? It used to be Demon Marcus but I changed the name!"

The little cutie, whether suddenly struck with a sense of shyness or terror at suddenly being peered at, or maybe he was just showing off, turned and took a dive toward his bedding, digging into it to bury himself, turn around, and then peer right back from a much safer spot.

"Ah, yes," Sidon brightened (somehow) with recognition. "I've been there! Not very often, mind," you know, because of the whole no-clothes thing, "but I've purchased a few things for my spectacular girlfriend Vette from there on occasion! She's gone adventuring herself, although out in space, so I've unfortunately not had much reason to visit more recently."

Alluka stifled a squeal of delight at the antics of the little hamster.

"Oh, well, I suppose you could get clothes for your friends," she suggested, "or a present for when your girlfriend returns!" Then Alluka laughed. "Or an accessory for yourself, if you like that sort of thing?"

Because, yes, the clotheslessness had been noted but Alluka had met far, far too many people to blink at that. If he was comfortable, she was comfortable. Still, a nice chain or something across his torso might look good...

"But, but today I'm buying, not selling!" she continued, with another laugh. "Are hamsters hard to take care of? I've never had a pet before."

"I believe so!" said Sidon, who really didn't know, but they were tiny and cute and seemed pretty easy while he was here at the shelter, so he had trouble imagining otherwise. "Although I am hardly an expert on hamsters! I don't even believe they exist in my world! But you can double-check with the vet if you like, she does most of the work here and is an excellent resource for things like that, which are very good questions to ask before considering a new friends such as this, how very good of you to think of it! I do think, though, as long as they are well fed, well watered, well loved, have clean bedding, and plenty of things to spark adventure, they should be quite content!"

After all, wasn't that all that most people needed in life?

"That sounds mostly like what I like," Alluka noted, giggling into her hands. "Except that I bet they're not allowed to eat cake and chocolate!"

Sidon had to laugh a little at that. "Yes," he said, "I don't believe they like cake or chocolate, but I suppose that would just mean there remains more for yourself to thoroughly enjoy! We mostly feed them special hamster food, nuts, leafy greens, and they are particularly thrilled when they are given fruits! Perhaps fruits are their cakes and chocolate!"

"Some fruit is pretty good," Alluka admitted and she'd never, ever admit that to her big sister.

Mostly out of tradition at this point.

"Maybe you're right. I bet they don't taste the same when you're a hamster either. Do you know if I'd need more than one?"

As someone who didn't care much for most conventional human food, Sidon would certainly agree with that perspective of it.

"Well," he said thoughtfully, "you wouldn't want your new friend to be too lonely when you aren't around, would you?"

"That's true," she admitted, shifting a little. Alluka didn't like being lonely. "And, and I don't live at the shop, so they'd be alone a bunch."

Please don't talk her into getting a ridiculous number of hamsters, Sidon.

Who did you think he was? Prompto?

"So if you decide to get a hamster," Sidon offered reasonably, "then it would make sense to get at least one more, so that they each have a lovely companion and will be best of friends together in the shop! What a marvelous idea!"

"It is a pretty wonderful idea," she admitted, leaning over to see if she could spot another friendly little buddy. "But, but what if they don't like each other? Does that happen?"

"I imagine it does," Sidon had to admit, as he considered the habitat and all its connections and intricate little spaces, "but these ones all share the same habitat right now pretty well together, so they're all quite good friends already! And when put together in a new, exicting home, why, that will only make their bond stronger! How perfect! And look!"

Sidon pointed toward a tunnel that had been put together to be particularly wavy.

"Here comes another one right now!"

In just a moment, said hamster making its way up and down those hills would be emerging into the space with the other one.

She waited. She waited. She--

"Look how cute he is!" she squealed.
