The ring was still up from the Battle Royale on Monday, but it was no longer being used for adorable kitten and puppy rumbles. Instead, it seemed to have been commandeered by the cheese panda, who was pacing it with an intimidating snarl on his muzzle, despite it still being very much kitten-and-puppy sized and not at all panda bear sized.

Shunsui almost didn't want to ask. Thankfully, he didn't have to, as he just looked at Apu, who shook his head and explained that the bear had made a declaration that anyone who could beat him in a wrestling match could get all the cheese they wanted.

"We're not letting people wrestle for free cheese," Shunsui stated, to which the bear responded with a serious of growls and beating his paws against his chest, but, thankfully, Apu apparently spoke cheese panda and translated that the bear said he'll step down if Shunsui could defeat him.

And, so help him, he considered it. He could easily do it. It would be very quick work, really, but it would also be work, and there was also the whole principle of the matter.

"I'm a pacifist," he reminded them both. "I don't believe in unnecessary violence."

So the bear let out a sound that was half-chuckle and half stubborn resolve, and Shunsui shook his head and stalked toward one of the aisles before finally going to settle behind the counter, because he was definitely going to need more sake than usual today.

"... What's going on?"

You'd think Octavia would've known to expect absolutely anything upon walking absolutely anywhere on this island. But apparently you'd think wrong.

Shunsui was sort of wondering how this was going to play out if Octavia came by for a visit this week, and, well, now he got to know.

It involved a lot of posturing and gesturing and chest-beating from the panda in the small puppy-and-kitten sized-wrestling ring, for starts.

"He wants you to challenge him for free cheese, kanashimi no hato," Shunsui drawled by way of very tired-sounding explanation, already pouring her a cup, but just the one cup, because he was keeping the bottle to drink from directly himself, thank you. "I advise you not to humor him..."

Octavia eyed the bear the entire way to the counter, half wary and half just quizzical.

"I don't even want cheese."

Sure, that was the only reason not to wrestle a bear, O.

Well, hopefully she at least wanted sake, because she was already being handed a cup, though Shunsui may have been mildly distracted by the indignant huff the escaped the panda, who then began stomping in the ring like he was a sumo wrestler and making challenging hand gestures at Octavia.

"And now," Shunsui reported, "it appears he wants to wrestle you for your disparaging comments and must defend the cheese's honor..."

He blinked.

"Oh, no," he realized, "I'm starting to understand it..."

He looked at the bottle (yes, bottle. The usual jug had long since been drained) as if betrayed.

"I think my sake's broken."

Or perhaps working too well?

Octavia did still want sake, as a matter of fact. Although there was a fair bit of distraction in the way she accepted it, too.

"Disparaging comments?" she asked... the bear. "All I said was that I don't want it. Pretty sure that should be a goodthing when you're trying to make people wrestle you for it."

Shunsui just sort of shook his head and gave her a slightly withering look, as though there was no point in trying to explain, but he would do his best, anyway. "The cheese panda," he informed her in a grave tone just tinged slightly with annoyance, "seems to take it as a truly deep personal insult whenever anyone does not want his precious cheese. He is deeply injured over the shocking discovery that people are not lining up along the street just for the chance to earn the change to possess it free of charge. As if wrestling with a bear had no inherent cost in its own right..."

He sighed, taking a swig from his bottle.

"He says he'll stop if I were to defeat him," he noted, "but I fear that will only lead to encouraging similar behavior in the future..."

Of all the things to still be hanging around after all these years, why did one of them have to be the cheese panda?

"I don't think you should fight him," Octavia agreed as she gave the panda one last dubious look before turning her attention back on Shunsui. "Someone should, though."

She paused, and looked at the bottle.

"Just how much sake have you had?"

"Not enough to worry about, my dear ♥," Shunsui assured her with a faint, familiar, lopsided smile. And, volume wise, this was true. He hadn't really had more to drink than he usually did, but it had been consumed in a considerable shorter length of time. "And while I don't condone anyone fighting the panda, I'll admit that I'm curious if you had anyone particular in mind..."

"I don't know, someone who doesn't know better," Octavia replied, shrugging a little. So sadly, no, she didn't have anyone in particular in mind. Although... "I think Magnus would probably do it, but I don't think he should. But he's exactly the type."

Honestly, she wouldn't be surprised to find out he already had.
