So, apparently, Apu had been prepared for today, because, when Summer came in, not long after noticing the friendship bracelets adorning the turtle and the canary's resective tanks and cages, he approached to present her with one of her own, which, she noticed, matched the one he was wearing, Because it was, apparently, Best Friends Day, and there wasn't a weird rando holiday that Apu wouldn't celebrate when given half the chance.
"...we're not best friends, Apu," Summer reminded him. "We're just coworkers."
But when he explained that his only other options were the cheese panda, Shunsui, or Tino (thus opening a door that Summer would have preferred to have stayed shut in which she could only imagine Apu and Tino flitting off on wild adventures that no one ever knew about), she sighed, and put out her hand for the bracelet.
"Okay, fine," she sighed. "I'll be your best friend. But only for today. And we're not, like, doing sleepovers or makeovers or anything like that, but we can get ice cream later and pretend to get into a big fight because we like the same boy. Deal?"
He found those terms acceptable, and so now they were BFFs. Or, well, BF-Until-The-End-of-the-Shifts.
