That warehouse- Friday afternoon

Usually when Rey got here for training she would start with the course or by running drills, but today she was busy texting and frowning at her phone while she waited.

She did pause to make sure the ball pit was gone, though.

"The balls are gone," Anakin said, looking disappointed as he came in.

"Yeah, it's terrible," Rey lied, smiling.

[sith_happened]

"You seem very broken up about it," Anakin teased.

[thatwaslucky]

"Oh no, I hated that thing," Rey said, shaking her head. "I may have been subtle about it."

[sith_happened]

"You weren't," Anakin said, laughing.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'll train with anything, that doesn't mean I have to like it," Rey grinned.

[sith_happened]

"That's an excellent attitude," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

"Is it?" She'd have thought it would sound whiny of her.

[sith_happened]

"Well, you're still training," Anakin said.

[thatwaslucky]

"I don't get it," Rey admitted.

[sith_happened]

"Jedi get dropped into situations that we get no training for and we have to work with what we find," Anakin said with a smile. "It's a good sign that you can adjust well to the unexpected in training."

[thatwaslucky]

"It's the years of training," she said lightly. "When you don't have much, you work with what you do. Or what you can find."

[sith_happened]

Anakin nodded. "That's how I grew up, too. It was...unusual in the Temple when I was a student."

[thatwaslucky]

"Having access to things?" she asked.

[sith_happened]

"The other padawans came to the Temple very early in their lives," Anakin said. "I was older. And I'd been a slave, which is..." he shrugged. "Well."

Not exactly easy.

[thatwaslucky]

"It's an adjustment," Rey said, nodding.

[sith_happened]

"I don't think I ever fully adjusted," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

"Really? Ever?"

He'd kinda been through a lot.

[sith_happened]

Anakin shrugged again. "It was hard making friends, especially since we didn't have a ton in common and I was quicker learning everything than most of them. So I mostly stopped trying."

"It sounds difficult," Rey said.

[sith_happened]

"It wasn't wonderful," Anakin said, "but I nursed those grudges far longer than I should have."

[thatwaslucky]

"Would you do it differently if you could? Try harder to connect?" she wondered.

[sith_happened]

"Maybe," Anakin said, frowning thoughtfully. "I was very angry."

[thatwaslucky]

"And I don't know how someone gets less angry," said Rey, who just hid it better.

[sith_happened]

"I'm still trying to figure out the healthy way to do it," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

"I didn't know there was a healthy way," she said. "I thought people just... kept finding new ways to be angry because they're angry."

[sith_happened]

Anakin nodded. "But you can't keep drinking poison and expect the other person to die," he said thanks, Carrie.

[thatwaslucky]

Sniff.

"Not drinking poison sounds easy, though."

[sith_happened]

"Well, yes, but then people are stupid," Anakin pointed out.

[thatwaslucky]

"Or they need a little guidance."

No, Rey, people are stupid.

[sith_happened]

"Or a strategic kick to the head."

Thank you, Anakin.

"I wouldn't go that far," Rey said.

And added, "Maybe a hit to the back with my staff."

[sith_happened]

"Easier to deny it was you that way, too."

Anakin, no.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm not very subtle about that, either."

If someone got hit, it was absolutely Rey.

Aankin laughed. "Maybe we should work on subtly."

From Anakin Skywalker. Yeah, okay.

"Have you met you?" Rey asked easily.

She'd seen you with that cape, Anakin.

[sith_happened]

Anakin laughed. "I can be subtle."

This was not at all true.

[thatwaslucky]

"Give me an example," Rey challenged.

[sith_happened]

"Nothing springs immediately to mind," Anakin admitted after a too-long pause. "I'll ask Rory."

Who would spit coffee out her nose.

[thatwaslucky]

"You'll have to get back to me, then," she nodded.

[sith_happened]

"It could take a while," Anakin admitted.
