That warehouse- Friday afternoon

Rey had finished repairing Luke's lightsaber a couple days ago. She'd spent hours at a time refashioning the hilt to keep the original look while also hiding the fact that it had been cracked in half. The healed crystal hadn't changed color, meaning it was still a blue blade extending from the weapon. It looked and felt like the same thing she'd first held months ago, just with her own touches to put it together again.

And while she'd tested it to make sure it wouldn't blow up or anything, she hadn't really worked with it yet. She'd saved that for today. She put a remote on a medium setting, more trying to get the feel of it again than anything.

Honestly, it felt great.

"It worked!" Anakin said, beaming at her from the doorway.

"It worked!" Rey said, grinning back.

And giving it a little twirl because she could.?

"Nice," Anakin said, grinning even wider. "Don't try it behind your back just yet."

[thatwaslucky]

Rey immediately switched to a reverse grip, just because she could.

It was easy enough to bat away a bolt.

"Very good," Anakin praised. "Does it feel different than the practice lightsaber?"

"Yes," she said, and paused. "Not much physically. But... this is the one that called me, if that makes sense."

"It totally makes sense...to other Jedi," Anakin said, smiling.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm still not there yet," Rey said quickly.

[sith_happened]

"You're getting closer, though," Anakin said. "Want to try to spar?"

[thatwaslucky]

"Yeah," she said. She didn't even need to think about it.

"We'll stay on the ground this time," Anakin said, smiling.

[thatwaslucky]

"I appreciate that," she said, switching off the remote to put it away.

"I make no promises for next time," Anakin said, grinning.

Liam hadn't missed radio mentioning Rey having worked on 'some project' the other day, and while that was vague enough that it could have been anything, there was one project in particular he was aware of. And curious as to the results. So after Arts and Crafts, on his way back to the Station, he stopped by her warehouse.

"Hey. You did it!" he said, taking in the sight of her with the clearly functional lightsaber.

"I did," she said, grinning even as she knocked a blast away. "About time."

It really, really was.

"What was it like?" Liam asked. "Compared to healing something organic, I mean."

[thatwaslucky]

"It is organic," Rey told him, lifting a hand to switch off the remote. "And it turns out it's more exhausting than healing a bruise."

"That part doesn't surprise me," Liam said. "Though the 'organic' part does, a little."

Said the person whose own biology wasn't even entirely matter-based.

"I don't know that I'd say it's alive, exactly, but it... there's definitely an energy to it," Rey explained. "It's not just a part."

"Interesting," Liam mused. "Taelon technology is bio-organic, but this is the first I've heard of anything from anywhere else that's even slightly similar."

"I don't know how much I can explain about the crystal," she admitted. "There are some things I just have learned to accept."

"Sometimes it's easier that way," Liam agreed with a laugh.

[thatwaslucky]

"At any rate," Rey smiled, "I have something that works again, which will be much more helpful."

Liam nodded.

"Working weapons generally are, I've found."

[thatwaslucky]

"I managed with other stuff just fine," she said with a little smile. "But there were so many times I wished I'd had this instead."
