The streets of Fandom, Friday afternoon

Duke was just walking down the street, minding his own business, and he got smacked in the back of his head by a water balloon.

"Hey!" He spun around, looking for who threw it. "What the hell?!"

And got another water balloon, this time to the face.

"Swear to god, if this is the woodchucks --"

Water balloons came at him from every direction, leaving him absolutely drenched.

"I really hate this town sometimes."

Danny's hair wasn't fluffy anymore and he looked like a very pissed off, wet cat. "Who the hell is throwing those?!"

"Oh thank god, it's not just me," Duke said. Sorry, Danny, magical harassment shared was magical harassment halved. "I don't know. Squirrels?"

Another balloon hit him in the back of the head.

Danny whipped around to try and find the culprit. Which didn't exist. "I preferred the kiddie pools," he very loudly proclaimed.

A sort of lackluster toss of a balloon at their feet was the only response.

"I think you embarrassed it -- them -- whatever." Duke waved his hand in a circle. "Keep it going."

"And this is really bad for the environment," Danny continued. "You better pick up the balloons once it's over."

Yes, shame the island for it's wacky, Danny.

Duke waited, flinching in anticipation of a barrage, but nothing happened.

"Good, good. Keep up the 'I'm not mad I'm disappointed' voice."

"Well, I am disappointed. I spend part Christmas with my kid cleaning up the beach because of people like this." Oh, there was that Catholic guilt.

"Holier-than-thou. Nice touch."

[hatesparadise]

"I have a proud family tradition of shaming people for being schmucks," Danny replied. A balloon went flying at his back for that.

[betterthanaplan]

"Do all people with big families talk about them this much?" Duke asked.

And took a water balloon in the shoulder.

"Pretty much, yeah," Danny said, shifting to try to use Duke as a human shield. He was big enough for it, at least.

[betterthanaplan]

"And I thought Nathan and his dad were insufferable," Duke grumbled. "What the hell are you doing?"

A balloon hit him in the side of the head.

[hatesparadise]

"That." Danny.

[betterthanaplan]

"Are you -- are you hiding behind me?"

[hatesparadise]

"It's sort of a human shield situation." And Danny was shameless about it.

[betterthanaplan]

"Yeah, let's not do that," Duke said, side-stepping away. Just as another water balloon came crashing down at them from above.

[hatesparadise]

"C'mon!" Danny was just going to be wet all day long, wasn't he?

[betterthanaplan]

Yes. Yes he was.

"Ha!" Duke grinned. "That's what you get, man."

And took a particularly cold water balloon between the shoulders.

"Oh yeah, I feel real punished there." The balloon to the back of his head after that was the real punishment.

His poor, poor hair was now just a complete mess.

At least his was short. Duke's was going to take forever to dry!

He took several more balloons in quick succession, all up and down his back. "Alright!" he shouted, trying and failing to dodge. "I get it! Knock it off!"

"Karma, huh?" Danny asked, wiping water off his face.

[betterthanaplan]

"I didn't do anything to deserve this," Duke muttered. "The island's just -- sadistic."

[hatesparadise]

"Next time this happens, I'm not leaving my place." IT WOULD STILL HAPPEN, DANNY.

[betterthanaplan]

"It's cute how you think this wouldn't happen in your place."

[hatesparadise]

"Well it shouldn't."

[betterthanaplan]

"It shouldn't be happening at all."

[hatesparadise]

Danny opened his mouth like he wanted to say something, but Duke was correct on that matter. Duke was correct.

So he just nodded.

[betterthanaplan]

. . . Huh. Danny didn't argue.

Mark the calendar.

Another balloon hit him in the head.

"Okay, I'm getting an umbrella."

"Get me one too!"

[betterthanaplan]

"Get your own!"

The water balloon to the face probably said what Fandom thought about that answer.

And the one that hit Danny as he laughed at that was well deserved.

[betterthanaplan]

"Maybe you need to go back to shaming them," Duke suggested.

His hair was dripping.

"It's startin' to grow on me."

[betterthanaplan]

"You're a dick. You know that, right?"

[hatesparadise]

"Eh," he said with a grin.
