You know, deep down, Summer wasn't really surprised or anything that there were two raccoons just hanging out at the store that day, considering the noticeable uptick in anthromorphic people running around the place so far this week and the fact that she already had a panda on the payroll, but it was still just a little...unexpected.

"....right," she said, "so do I need to get you guys paperwork, or something? Is this just a temporary thing? Should I just sort of let you do your thing and I'll do my thing and we'll be good? Yeah, good? Okay, cool. So, I guess, just...let me know if you need anything? I'll just let you do you, raccoon dudes. Help yourself to some Squishies, if you want, too."

Honestly, in the grand scheme of things, two raccoons looking to buy and sell shit wasn't even registering on the weirdness scale and, honestly? Summer was just glad that this was all she apparently had to deal with today, because last week sucked, and she'd much rather deal with wasps in the trees than bees in her store.

Oh, which reminded her to put up a sign:

Timmy and Tommy were ready to help you!

In fact, they were so ready that they weren't doing anything except standing right where they'd be seen first thing when someone walked in, waiting.

Unless someone went to wander around the store, in which case they would follow them incessantly, just in case they needed help.

...They meant well?

And they weren't beating people up for not letting them help them, Cheese Panda, so Summer really didn't have any complaints, either, and it was almost strangely fascinating how they just stood there, to the point where Summer wasn't sure she'd even get any of her work done today for the fact that she couldn't help watching them to see what they might do.

Apu, however, clearly did not approve, and was giving them a wide berth, even if he was muttering about them not-so-subtly under his breath the whole time.

"I just need turnip prices," Alexis told them, already vaguely creeped out.

"Hello! ...hello!" they said.

"The current price for turnips is 53 bells per turnip," Tommy said.

"What? That price sucks," Alexis said.

Timmy and Tommy didn't care.

"Is there anything else I can do for you today? ...today?" they said.

"No," she said, in a way that was half ugh. "I'll try tomorrow. Oh! Wait! I have fruit!"

Someone had shaken a tree and left it so she'd picked it up. She pulled a couple cherries from her pocket and held them out.

"Some cherries! Sure!" Tommy said. "How about if I offer you 1000 bells?"

Alexis' eyes widened. That was actually kind of awesome for something that she literally picked up from the ground.

"Um, yes, love that," she said, handing over the cherries.

Tommy pocketed the cherries and handed over the bells.

"Thank you! Please come again! ...again!" he said, with the weird Timmy echo.

Or just come talk to her, that's totally fine, too, as she tries to figure out if this is just a thing for now or if she has to worry about some raccoons getting all up in her business.

"Okay," Alexis said as she came in, "what are your turnip prices?"

She was going to make money on this, okay.

"I don't know," Summer sort of had to admit, "average? I haven't exactly worked out the conversion rate for bells yet, since apparently that's what we're using now."

"Yeah, that's why I have to sell these stupid turnips," Alexis sighed. "But what would you pay me to take them off my hands?"

"Not much," Summer shrugged like she wanted to look sorry that she couldn't give a better answer, but she couldn't quite get there. "We're not really in the market for turnips right now, although I am starting to wonder if I'll regret that statement by the end of the week. I mean, we don't really buy things here in general, it kind of goes the other way around. Did you try the creepy raccoon twins, though? They look like they'd do just about anything for a good trade, although I'd honestly be a little worried that a good part of your soul wouldn't wind up being caught up in the mix and lost forever as part of the bargain."

"I'm fine with that as long as it gets me more than 103 Bells per turnip," Alexis admitted, waving her hand vaguely.

And Summer, although she kind of hated it, found herself reaching for a pen and the nearest scrap of paper.

"And is that the current going rate?" she asked, scribbling that down. "103 Bells per turnip?"

Then she tried to catch Apu's eye and wave him over and subtly try to whisper to him to go see how many bells they might have had in stock right now. It wasn't exactly a commodity she'd paid a whole lot of attention to as far as stock went because they weren't exactly a typically hot seller or remotely perishable.

"That's what I bought them for, so I have to sell them for more than that or I lose money and I already lost money when my dollars turned into Bells."

She didn't really, her credit cards worked. She just wanted more money and was now turning it into a Thing.

"Trying to work the turnip market, huh?" asked Summer.

Who thought it just sounded like a lot of work for something that was going to change in a few days, despite the new interest in their bell inventory.

"If I'm going to buy vegetables and not put them in a smoothie then I'm at least going to make some money off of them," Alexis said. "I mean, how hard can it be?"

This was gonna be her whole week.
