The Park- Monday morning

It was possible that this week was great for kids. Kitty had brought Lexi out for a walk and ended up in the park for the last half hour where Lexi was running around trying to catch grasshoppers and demanding that Kitty shake trees.

There'd almost been a Situation with a wasp, but Kitty had caught that in time. Plus, free wasp nest!

It should also be said that Lexi had found a net in her pockets (which Kitty was not looking forward to checking later, dear god) and was attempting to use it, but mainly she was just hitting things. The grass, the air, a tree, a talking cat...

"Hey there, short stuff," Redd said to Lexi as he walked up. "That's a nice net you've got there. Real . . . netty."

"She's not great with conversations yet," Kitty said. "Hey there."

"Oh yeah, conversation's hard," Redd said, nodding. "I get that. You and me, short stuff, we're two peas in a pod. Like . . . cousins."

Kitty squinted a little. "Are we?"

"Totally," Redd said. In a very trustworthy manner. "And that's why I'm going to give the two of you a real special deal. I've got a detailed painting here I'm sure you two will just love. All yours for a low, low cost. Just because we're such good friends."

"We met like sixty seconds ago," Kitty said. "What's this painting?"

"Exactly!" Redd said, unperturbed. He pulled out a -- leaf. That was totally a detailed painting, yes. "Take a look at all the details! They're very . . . detailed. All yours for the bargain basement price of 498,000 bells."

"That's way, way too many bells," Kitty said. "Sorry. You know how it is."

"I do, I do. You drive a hard bargain, lady. Well. Just because I'm such a nice guy. I think I can go as low as . . . 4,980 bells on this here detailed painting."

"That is a deep discount."

She considered it, though. She didn't trust this but she was also curious what would happen, and she'd made more bells than that today so she probably wasn't wasting money...

"You know what, sure."

"Great choice! I'll just take those bells now." Redd handed her the leaf thing and held his paws out for the bells. "And if you'd like to make any more excellent choices, just look for Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler! Limit one item per customer per day."

"Okay," she said, handing over the bells and ignoring Lexi accidentally hitting her on the knees with the net. "I'll be sure to tell allll my friends about you."

"You do that! Just . . . maybe not at that town hall. Thanks."

Kitty gave him a thumbs up. This still felt like a bad idea somehow?
