Breq had decided to teach herself to play the guitar. She already knew how to play the bass at an elementary level, so it wasn't too hard to to get the basics, and she kept strumming along to whatever songs the stereo might be playing. Which turned out to be a playlist of beginner guitar songs, and it was being helpful enough to show the chords and tabs on the display. Breq decided that was encouragement.

"You're being very supportive today," she told it. "Just an observation."

Perhaps they would eventually get along.

"Thanks. I appreciate it."

Tisarwat hadn't come back to the apartment last night, and, by the time she had returned, she decided to come in through the shop to potentially have to save herself a little bit of time.

"Good morning, Breq. Do--" She started with a smile, though there was still that faint pull of strangeness to it when she addressed her so informally, and then stopped when she saw that she was preoccupied with something. "Oh. I didn't mean to interrupt..."

Breq looked up.

"You don't," she said, putting the guitar on the floor.

"Would you like some tea?"

She wasn't going to ask where Tisarwat had been of course, but wherever it was, there had probably not been any decent tea.

Summer's tea was absolute garbage, but she definitely didn't tell Summer that.

"Do you have some made already?" she asked. "If not, don't worry, I'll make some." It still felt weird to have Breq make her tea, after all. She was already headed over to where the tea usually was. "You can keep playing."

And Breq found Tisarwat making tea for her weird, but at least Tisarwat didn't know what she was.

She picked up the guitar again, but didn't go back to playing.

"I thought I should learn how to play this."

There was definitely a comment in there about how learning an instrument would be an excellent solution to Breq's singing, but Tisarwat definitely wasn't going to make that comment, she was just going to grin a little to herself as she started making some fresh tea.

"Is it very complicated?" she asked.

"Depends on which level of proficiency you're aiming for."

The gloves she wore so that Tisarwat wouldn't be uncomfortable didn't help though.

But just think of how much easier it would be, then, if she were to play without the gloves! Although that was a thought that would make Tisarwat shudder a little, so it was a good thing she would never even think of it in the first place!

Instead, she was thinking, and asking, "Have you learned anything worth sharing?"

Breq struck a few chords.

"Not really," she said, then continued:

"I suppose I need some tea as well."

Of course she didn't, but it was a good, if obvious, excuse.

An excuse, or a hint? But, either way, Tisarwat felt the message was clear, which was fine because the tea was ready, anyway. So she poured a couple of cups and brought them over to offer one to Breq.

"Tea is never a bad idea, anyway," she said, "but I hope you pursue it enough that you'll have something to play for me eventually."

Even if she sang along. Or maybe because she might. She missed it.

"Perhaps," Breq said, accepting the tea. "Have you ever considered learning to play an instrument?"

"I don't think I'd be very good at it," Tisarwat admitted humbly with a small smile, looking into her own cup for a moment before lifting it for a drink.

"But," she added after that sip, "I have found an interest in learning more about the piano lately..."

For no particular reasons, though, of course!

"Oh?" Breq said. "Didn't you sell one recently?"

She knew Tisarwat had.

And of course Tisarwat had known that Breq had known.

"I did," she confirmed, the smile growing. "And I paid a visit to the buyer to follow up and make sure it was meeting her expectations. I suppose that's where the interest is coming from."

"Does she play well?"

Breq guessed that watching someone play the piano must have been interesting regardless to Tisarwat.

"Very well," Tisarwat enthused easily...very easily. Maybe even wistfully. "As far as I can tell. Apparently, she's self-taught herself, which makes it even more impressive."

"Are you going to ask her to teach you?"

Breq was just trying to be encouraging, Tisarwat.

And that definitely was encouraging, as Tisarwat took a moment to play out how that might go in her head while she drank her tea, the lift of her brow approving, although admittedly optimistic. It was...difficult to be anything but optimistic in her current mood.

"I think maybe I will," she decided. "I hadn't thought of that, but it wouldn't hurt to try, would it?"

"No, not if you enjoy it."

And the company. If Tisarwat was serious about whomever she had spent the night with, it didn't sound like she would say no to seeing the pianist again.
