The warehouse with the lightsaber burn on the door- Friday afternoon

Rey had had some weird dreams last night. Maybe. It wasn't anything she remembered, just the kind that had left her with a slightly off feeling and a vague curiosity of whether a certain someone had had weird dreams too. And she absolutely didn't want to deal with that thought, so instead she decided while she waited she would run the obstacle course.

She half expected the woodchucks to throw things at her to knock her off again, but instead they were just watching. Waiting.

It was more unnerving than you'd think.

Anakin arrived, still looking slightly cold from the class trip to Antarctica. "You're getting better," he said, and that was her warning as he ignited the remotes.

"Oh, thanks," she said dryly, even only sighing a little bit as she pulled the lightsaber free to have to deal with that.

But she was also quick to do that so something was working.

Anakin smiled proudly at that, yes. And then added a couple more remotes, since she seemed prepared for ten of them.

"I want to see you do this one of these times!" Rey called, and she actually really did.

But for the moment she was trying to deal with the remotes, which meant running through the course as fast as possible while dodging bolts and trying to block errant shots.

"Next week," Anakin promised.

She was remembering that.

But for now she focused on the course, taking a shot to a shoulderblade and finding that particular remote to fling it away in the Force in annoyance without thinking about it, not stopping.

Anakin's lips quirked up proudly and he let that remote fall dormant to see what she did next.

The bonus of knowing the course as well as she did meant that Rey could practically run it with her eyes closed, leaving her time to focus on what was happening around her. She could figure out when to dodge and when to block and when she didn't need to do either.

And when one clipped her side on the tightrope portion it looked like she might stumble, but she caught her balance again, took the next four steps to safety, and then pushed all of the remotes out of her way because that one had hurt.

"Very well done," Anakin said. "I need to redo the course soon."

Since that was near the end anyway, Rey finished the rest and made her way back down before acknowledging, "Yeah, probably."

Look at her, not minding a tougher challenge.

There would be much skinnier passes up much higher next time. Anakin was mean.

"Good," he said, nodding.

[thatwaslucky]

"That run was okay, though?" she checked, stretching out that one side a bit.

[sith_happened]

"The run was more than adequate, yes," Anakin said. "Just be sure to expand your awareness to behind you."

[thatwaslucky]

"I was trying. Not sure how successful that was," Rey admitted.

[sith_happened]

"It's something that will eventually become second nature," Anakin said, nodding, "but you get shot a lot before then."

[thatwaslucky]

"You've got that right." There were two parts of her still stinging right now. "It's still a little weird to keep focus on everything while still paying attention to where I'm going."

Anakin nodded again. "It definitely is, but that's a big part of what make Jedi so much more effective in battle."

[thatwaslucky]

"How long did it take you to be able to consider all of it?" Rey wondered.

[sith_happened]

"While actually being fired on?" Anakin said. "About a year."

[thatwaslucky]

"Okay," she said, kind of setting that as a little goal for herself. "Sounds reasonable."

"You'll get there," Anakin said. "It just takes a lot of practice."

[thatwaslucky]

"I know," Rey said, flashing a little smile. "It's how you get better at everything, isn't it?"

[sith_happened]

"Well, sometimes you're naturally brilliant, but yes, the rest is practice," Anakin said.

[thatwaslucky]

"Even the things I've been naturally good at I had to work on," she said. "Just to figure out what to do with it."

[sith_happened]

"Even engineering?" Anakin asked, interested. "I always just felt my way through that."
