The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

"Tonight," Lucifer called, "I want to see some dancing in this bloody club!"

... Yeah, it was one of those nights he'd advertised for on the mainland. Lucifer had felt like entertaining after all that nonsense last week, and so his performance at the piano might be a little over-the-top tonight.

It was definitely upbeat, however.

And that was before they brought in the liquor ice tower.

... Sometimes you just had to make a night of it.

Or dance. Dancing's definitely what Lucifer is going for.

He eventually cedes the music to the playlist, yes.

Having spent part of the weekend stuck in a prison under the threat to be cut into little pieces by uncivilised aliens, Seivarden felt she needed a drink.

"You can't believe what happened this weekend," she said, placing a drink in front of Lucifer.

Oh good, they were ignoring last week. Lucifer felt a modicum of relief.

Unless last weekend had anything to do with Amaya...

"Oh, I can believe a fair amount," he said. "What happened?"

Let's ignore last week.

"I got stuck in a prison on some disgusting planet where they wanted to cut us into pieces. All because Summer wanted to help a friend."

Nothing to do with Amaya.

"You let Summer take you on a space roadtrip?" Lucifer said, frowning. "I could have told you that sounded like a horrible idea."

"She had stolen some kind of portal gun," Seivarden said. "From her grandfather. She offered to use it to get me home."

She sipped her drink.

"Well, I suppose at least her motives were good," Lucifer said, picking up the fresh drink Seivarden had gotten him.

"Yes," Seivarden said. "And I suppose I can't say it's terrible of her to want to help some friend with murderous fans on the way. I just wish she hadn't."

"I can imagine. Prison is not fun," Lucifer said, taking a sip. "How'd you get out?"

"We were resourceful," Seivarden said with a grin, then added, a little awkwardly: "The plan didn't work though. Going back to my universe."

Would it have been wrong to disappear back to her own universe without saying goodbye? It felt wrong.

"Sorry to hear that," Lucifer said, "Though I had noticed you were still firmly here."

"Yes, well, although I do want to go home, I suppose I'd preferred a bit less sudden departure."

This was Radchaai for 'I would have wanted to say goodbye'.

"Would be rather less awkward," Lucifer said lightly, "Might diminish the chances some of us assume you'd gotten eaten by something unpleasant."

Seivarden smiled a little.

"That would have been your first assumption?"

She suddenly realised she had this uncomfortable feeling that she hadn't even been missed despite having almost ended up killed, or permanently gone.

... Well, she'd been gone a weekend, right after a fight, so...

"My experience is that when people disappear from the island, bad things tend to happen," Lucifer said. "So it would be nice to know you weren't randomly dragged off into terrible trauma."

Insecurities, Lucifer.

"I've had people want to chop me into pieces before," she said with a grin. "But usually I had better guns. I never want to go back to a planet where Mr Poopybutthole is considered a respectable name though."

Lucifer wasn't going to insist they talk about last week, was he?

Why would he? Last week he'd been desperately trying to get out of a conversation while Seivarden kept making it worse!

"... You met someone named 'Mr. Poopybutthole'?"

Lucifer was secretly a 14-year-old boy, so no, he was not containing that snicker.

The conversation had been about how Seivarden should talk to Amaya more. What not to Lucifer?

"Apparently he was a celebrity who wanted to escape his fans. I understand why."

She made a gesture with her hand. "Anyway, how was your weekend?"

In which Lucifer had made clear he was washing his hands of all Amaya-related nonsense, especially Seivarden's sad faces about her, and then Seivarden had insisted on going on about Amaya for several more minutes!

"Relatively quiet," Lucifer said. "Duke came back."

This was Seivarden logic, Lucifer, don't forget that.

"Oh, that's good. Is he ok?"

"Besides apparently aging 80 years in a weekend and then bouncing back to himself again after they found the source of the aging... Reasonably?"
