Turtle & Canary; Friday [08/14[.

There were a few new postcards in the box, more stylized than realistic, renderings of the various falls and slips taken by the participants of the activty on Wednesday, kept generally vague and non-descript except in the minor details that you had to really look closely at (with, of course, exceptions: it was a bit harder to hide someone like Sidon or Freya in artful silhouette), but most of Astrid's attention today was going to be in the small stack of legal books she'd borrowed from the library.

They were dry and sometimes impenitrable and she wished she had better resources and a better sense of trust to just shove some money at someone and trust them to work out all the little details, but it was sometimes interesting read something and set it out and try to dissect it like a frog. Dissect it, and then try to take little pieces of her life and figure out how to fit them inside. And then contend with the fact that, while putting the pieces inside made for a pretty picture, would it actually work? Would the frog regain new life and begin to hop around, or was the frog just worse off than it had been before?

She hadn't written, in a while. Neither of them had. Was she lying there with her astral projections, waiting for Astrid's next move? Was she amassing her army of followers, her case for innocence with her new hot-shot lawyer, clutching a stack of literary journals with her newest, inspiring work? Or had she already just forgotten and moved on? Astrid? Who? My daughter? Haha no, you're mistaken, I don't have a daughter...

Slowly, quietly, Astrid turned the next page, and continued to read.
