The Causeway, Saturday Morning

...at first Adora didn't even realise she was somewhere else. Not until she landed flat on what was very definitely not an alien forest floor, with a distinct lack of anyone else's laughter.

"Catra?" She looked around, taking in the causeway, the stone and brick houses. Oh, no no no, this was bad. "Catra?"

She stretched her hand out, willing the sword into existence. If this was a trap, she needed She-Ra, and if it wasn't, well, She-Ra was her best hope of undoing whatever had just happened.

So, yes, there was now a giant, glowing woman running up and down the causeway, occasionally stopping to poke at it with an equally long sword.

Sabine paused.

"So you're going to find this really, weird, but it looks like I'm actually your school-assigned big sibling," she said. "I'm Sabine."

Adora blinked. Slowly. She was reasonably sure she knew what all those words meant individually, but together...

"Oh, right, I've always wanted one of those."

She was about three seconds from bolting for the causeway and seeing if that would work.

"I know," Sabine said quickly. And sympathetically. "Whatever brought you here, the island knew you were coming."

"You mean like it's my destiny?" Adora was definitely starting to back away slowly.

Nope, she was just bolting.

Oh, she could bolt.

And Sabine could call, "That's probably not going to help anything."

Considering that Adora got halfway across the causeway before it somehow turned her around and she end up right back in front of Sabine? Not at all.

"What the?"

"Sorry about that," Sabine told her. "Like I said, the island thinks you should be here right now, and I know that sounds crazy, and there's no way to explain it that's not crazy. But the good news is it's probably not permanent."

"Is this an evil island?"

Adora would in fact punch the island if she had to.

"I wouldn't call it evil as much as chaos?" Sabine said, thinking. "It's not bad. Just takes some adjusting."

[grayskollar]

"Oh, I see."

She didn't exactly sound enthusiastic about that.

[seriesofbaddecisions]

"The new students for this semester just got in today. There's a welcome picnic up at the school," Sabine said. "If you want, I can bring you over there and you can meet some people. Maybe it'll make it easier? Or sound less... Okay, it's not going to sound less insane."

Adora's stomach growled loudly, reminding her she'd missed breakfast because she and Catra had...gotten distracted.

"There's food at picnics, right?" She was pretty sure there was supposed to be, at least according to Bow and Glimmer.

"All free, too," she said, nodding. "Interested?"

[grayskollar]

"Oh, that's great." Because Adora didn't have any money. "Because I don't have any money."

[seriesofbaddecisions]

"We've got you covered," Sabine smiled. "Come on, it's this way."

[grayskollar]

Adora sighed. "Okay."

That didn't stop her looking over her shoulder as she followed Sabine though.
