Community Center Class- Philosophy 101- Thursday evening

Jaye was having a day. She was all bruised from getting shot up by psychos with paintballs yesterday and then... then there'd been the moose.

"So there's been a misunderstanding," she began. "My name's Jaye, and I thought when I was offered this class that 'philosophy' was code for 'showing a movie,' only it turns out there's actually another class that's explicitly about showing movies and mine is actually about philosophy. Who knew.

"Anyway, I actually did go to Brown and have a degree in this, but my day job also means I have my name stitched onto my shirt, so I am qualified to do this, sort of. But since I'm wildly unprepared, why don't we start with the introductions, and you can start by telling me why you thought this was a good idea for yourself."

Hopefully a philosophy class would attract some people that would be interesting to talk to. That was what Lucille was hoping for anyway.

"My name is Lucille Sharpe. I used to be a student here, and recently returned after spending some time at home."

She almost smiled.

"I'm here for interesting conversations."

"Don't you find philosophy interesting?" Lucille asked.

"Something that inspires your curiosity in some way, intellectually or emotionally," Lucille replied. "Do you have a different definition?"

Eleanor briefly considered just using her fake identity but then again the super powered truant officer probably knew her name.

"I'm Eleanor Shellstrop. Somehow I got signed up? I don't know. Can I take a nap?"

She had soooo much to drink last night.

Eleanor blinked a few times and the gears in her head turned.

“So I got drunk last night I need to sleep or I’ll be a fright.”

Lucille sent Eleanor a condescending look.

Eleanor rolled her eyes in return. “Don’t get judgey with me. You don’t know my story.”

Though she did look pretty hungover.

"That is true. I don't."

She smiled, not any less condescendingly.

"Maeve," she said. "I thought it would look good to get into a university."

Maybe not?

"Duke Crocker," Duke said, wigging his fingers in a little wave. "I'm here because nothing's better after a hard day at work," which he'd skipped today, "than sitting around and bullshitting about the meaning of life."
betterthanaplan: (crushing your head)

Duke nodded. "Or at least a guy who's done a lot of drugs in his time."
