"Right," Duke said, staring at the rat nibbling on a slice of coffee cake across the table from him. "So. You're a rat."

"Clearly," said the rat.

"Named 'Fallacy'."

The rat nodded.

"And you're a demon."

"Daemon."

"Did Lucifer send you?"

The rat facepalmed. Duke didn't know they could do that.

"I'm Tinis," said the mouse thing, in what sounded like a British accent.

"If you wouldn't mind," Rey said, holding her hand out to Fallacy, because that was adorable. She might love this weekend?

Fallacy careful set the cake down in her hand. "Hi, Tinis, I'm Fallacy."

"I didn't name her," Duke was quick to say. "This is not a Larceny situation."

"It's kind of a theme, though," Fallacy pointed out. "Your wife's named Evidence."

"Yes," Duke said. "I noticed."

"Thank you," Rey said, breaking off a little piece for Tinis, who didn't have hands. "How does that keep happening?"

It was a very pointed theme!

"The multiverse has a terrible sense of humor?" Duke guessed.

"I think it just likes themes," Fallacy said.

"I'm not a theme," Tinis declared.

"How are you two getting along?" Rey asked.

[betterthanaplan]

"He panicked when he woke up and flung me into a wall," Fallacy said with a little huff.

"You ran across my face," Duke said. "I grew up on the streets, Fal, you learn to be wary of rats!"

"I know, I was there," Fallacy said, like she was trying to be patient with a stubborn child.

"No you weren't!"

"That well, hm," Rey said, looking amused.

"And how are you so chill?" Duke asked. "Did the Force warn you Tinis was cmoing?"

[thatwaslucky]

"No, we just get along," Rey said, and Tinis gave a little nod. "Animal companions aren't nearly the strangest thing that's happened here."

It wasn't the strangest thing to happen to her this week.

"Duke and I get along fine!" Fallacy protested. "Once he calmed down."

"Again, a rat ran across my face. While I was sleeping."

"It's not my fault you suddenly decided to start paying attention."

"This looks like arguing to me," Tinis noted.

[betterthanaplan]

Duke looked at Fallacy and shrugged. "I mean. . . ."

"Barely," Fallacy said with a snort. "We haven't even started calling each other names."

"Glad to see this is all working out for you," Rey smiled. "Think this is just for the weekend?"

[betterthanaplan]

"Seems likely," Duke said. "It's very . . . weekend weirdness."

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm not weekend weirdness," Tinis objected.

[betterthanaplan]

"You're weird, and you're here on a weekend," Duke said. "No offense."

[thatwaslucky]

"He's wonderful," Rey corrected.

[betterthanaplan]

“Those two things are not mutually exclusive,” Duke pointed out.

“I think you’re fabulous, Tinis,” Fallacy said. Then nipped Duke in the finger.

"And I think you didn't deserve to get flung into a wall," Tinis said appreciatively.

[betterthanaplan]

"I didn't know she was a talking rat when I flung her at the wall!" Duke protested.

Fallacy just shook her head and sighed. "Humans."
