Turtle & Canary; Monday [11/02].

How exactly the store wound up with so much extra leftover Halloween candy every year was beyond Summer. She knew she didn't order it. Apu claimed he didn't order it. There was no way Shunsui would have bothered to order it, and yet there they were, with so much, when she didn't even bother ordering it because she knew the island provided most of it itself. And it was like the store had tried to compensate for it or somehow best the island on how much randomly generated Halloween candy there could be.

Which, therefor, called for a sign:

Welcome to Turtle & Canary!
Where we dont' have discounted Halloween candy
because we're giving it away for free

(with purchase)

Although, around this place? Summer wouldn't be surprised if everyone considered the free candy and was just all, 'nah, I'm good.'

Today's Squishy Flavors
Cookies
Deviled Eggs
Red

Turtle & Canary is open!

So. It had taken Jessica almost a week to find this place on a map known as "Fandom". And it was a fucking weird place. There were guys in white armor marching all over. And there were flamingos at the park. And fuck ton of steps.

So naturally the first thing Jessica decided she needed was supplies. After walking around town she wandered into the first convenience store to see if it had what she needed.

What first gave her pause was the selection of Squishy drinks. And then there was that guy in a very elaborate panda costume trying to push cheese on her as she tried to make her way to the liquor aisle. And was that Squishy machine looking at her? So weird. Then again not long ago her city had been attacked by aliens and defended by weirdos in costumes. So maybe not totally weird.

Just weird from her typical bodega experience.

Anyhow she shuffled her way past the panda again and placed two very large and very cheap bottles of whiskey on the counter and started fumbling for her wallet.

Jessica paused for a moment in a bit of confusion. Years of living in New York had left the expectation of her getting ignored and getting judgey looks from the local bodega owner. Not a compliment or an invitation for a conversation. Or if the guy at the counter was younger a question about where the party was.

So this was different. And threw her off a bit.

"Uh. Yeah. Right," she stammered out as she continued to fumble with her money. "I mean... Wait. What do you mean by pro-active?"

Okay. The discussion of why she was buying so much liquor now felt more like the bodegas she frequented. "I'm just visiting," Jessica said shortly. "I'm only here for a few days on business."

She paused for a moment, silently debating whether she should continue this conversation. Then again, the girl seemed to know stuff.

"What's the deal with this place anyway?"

Did Jessica's jaw clench a bit at the words "multi-dimensional nexus"?

Yes. Yes it did. The idea of a multi-dimensional nexus wasn't exactly new to her. After all, her city had been attacked by aliens and giant flying armored space whales and defended by a giant angry green man in tight pants, Tony Stark and a guy with a red, white and blue shield.

However she was beginning to understand why a certain someone had been interested in this island now.

And that's when Jessica realized she was probably going to need a third bottle.

"There was a person of interest. He was planning on making an escape to this island," she said taking out her phone. "I wanted to find out why."

Opening the phone she then accessed her pictures and then turned it around to show to Summer. "Does he look familiar at all?"

"Yeah. He won't be coming here," Jessica said in a flat tone before turning around and marching past the panda who tried to push some Gruyere at her.

"Seriously," she growled at the bear. "Back off."

Grabbing a third bottle she went the long way around to avoid the panda. "Thanks for the advice," she said putting her money down on the counter. She paused for a moment thinking a bit at what the clerk had said and ventured another question. "You mentioned wackiness and batshit over the weekend. Exactly what kind of batshit are we talking about?"

There was a long pause as Jessica silently judged Summer for any kind of insanity. The whole thing sounded crazy but again living in New York these days made Jess realize that cheese pushing pandas and Halloween weirdness was strange and different but not on the whole as bad as alien invasions. Or people who could control your mind.

"Right."

Okay then. This place was truly strange. No wonder Kilgrave wanted to come here. Which led Jessica to her next question.

"There are bars on this island right?"

That was a long answer for someone expecting a simple "Yes." Honestly Summer had said more words in the last five minutes than Jessica usually utters in a week.

Normally that would push Jessica away.

But there were the options for free shots.

"Thanks," she said awkwardly. "I... We'll see. Depends on what I find here."

That actually made Jessica smirk in amusement. She picked through the candy dish and took out several Hershey Special Dark chocolates. Because kids don’t deserve them anyway. “Thanks. I’ll see you around,” she said taking her purchases and heading to the door.
