While it was true that Shunsui didn't pay very much attention to things like inventory and stock around here, even he coudl tell that there was something slightly...wrong about things when he finally breezed his way in for his usual Wednesday shift of being present because he should generally do that sort of thing as a business owner on occasion.

"Apu-san," he ventured warily, frowning as he looked around. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but is there somehow...more candy in the store now than there was before?"

Apu-san did not correct him, because Shunsui was not wrong. Despite their best efforts to give all the excess Halloween candy away the past few days, there was, in fact, even more. There was no record of it in the orders, Apu certainly didn't order it, it just all appeared overnight.

But, on the bright side, at least it was all general candy, and not Halloween specific?

So the sign about the free candy with every purchase was definitely staying, and Shunsui settled behind the counter to see which might compliment sake best in between little blips of naps.

It wasn't that Jessica was intending to stay at Fandom long. No. And not so much that she had finished all the whiskey she had purchased earlier in the week.

But it didn't hurt to keep a surplus.

Completely avoiding the Cheese Panda and the weird looking Squishy machine meant going down aisles that were completely unnecessary. And then taking a completely different route to get to the register was just additional work. However it allowed her to avoid contact with weird people and bring two large bottles of whiskey to the counter where she started digging around in her coat for her wallet.

And just witnessing all of that extra work made Shunsui feel exhausted by the time she made it to the counter, but he could hardly say he minded the...aesthetics of it all.

And he could hardly help but grin when all that hard work wound up producing such a small yet not insubstantial result.

"So ka," he observed thoughtfully, taking his sweet, luxuriant time in ringing up such a considerable purchase. "Decided to stick with the bare necessities, have we ♥?"

"Well from what I could tell you don't have any fucks in stock and I don't have any to give. So. Booze," Jessica said paying barely any attention to the guy behind the counter as she was stealing all the dark chocolate out of the free candy bin.

"Oh," said Shunsui, because how could he not, and with a grin that was all too pleased to take that opening when it presented itself, "I'm sure we can find at least a few fucks in the back room if that's what you're looking for. We do like to make sure our customers leave here...satisfied ♥."

Well at least he was direct. Jess would give him back. It did however cause her to stop digging through the candy and reach for her wallet.

"Maybe another time," she replied somewhat awkwardly. "It's only ten and I haven't lowered my standards yet."

Oh, like Shunsui could ever be bothered with someone as tiresome as standards. And it was always a delight to be hit back with snark rather than glares or blows.

Although those could always have their places, as well. His grin brightened.

"By all means," he said with a wave of his hand, "take your time. I'm not going anywhere, and you certain can't rush a good thing ♥.

"You can, however," he continued, as that waving hand seemed to somehow produce two small cups cradled comfortably, and a jug was set on the counter from behind it, and he poured from it into the cups as he spoke, "give it a small nudge ♥. I don't suppose you'd enjoy a little touch of sake to go along with your whiskey and chocolates ♥? After all, it's very clear you enjoy the finer things in life, Miss...?"

Trailing off, of course, in a curious question, a tilt of both his head and his smile, as the cups were offered out across the counter.

Jessica was feeling and visibly awkward at the moment. It wasn't the first time she'd been hit on and it certainly wouldn't be the last. And honestly this guy was at least way more honest and had better manners than most men she'd met.

Still.

"Jones," she allowed. "Thanks for the offer of the drink but I think your sake would be a waste on me."

She nodded at the large bottle of booze on the counter she was purchasing.

"I buy in bulk."

"Sake," Shunsui informed her easily, confidently, "is never wasted on a beautiful woman, Miss Jones ♥. But if that's the way you feel about, I suppose these," he lifted his hand still balancing the two cups, "will be for me, and you," he stoppered the jug and pushed it forward to join the whiskey, "can enjoy the bulk of it ♥."

Jessica eyed the jug warily. Was it really sake? The last time she got a stoppered jug like that it was the equivalent of jet fuel.

However if he was handing out free booze, she wasn't about to turn it down.

"Thanks," she said pushing her purchases and the jug in a bag. "I'll-"

What. Be gone at the end of the week?

"See you around. Mister...?"

"Kyōraku ♥," he offered, dipping his hat enough to shadow his pleased smile, before his head slightly followed suit in almost the start of a bow. "Shunsui Kyōraku ♥. And Captain, if you'd like to be particularly formal about it, Miss Jones, but I've never really cared much for formalities ♥."

Jessica gave the man a skeptical look. He certainly didn't look like any captain she had ever seen. And that's certainly not including the guy in blue tights who fought some aliens not too long ago.

"Pleasure to meet you?" she said awkwardly. "And... uh. Yeah."

With that she headed to the door.

This island was so weird.
