Annie had gotten back to town this afternoon, arriving with barely enough time to throw her bag vaguely in the direction of her closet before she had to head into work.

However, once she was at the bar, she set to work on a super-important task: testing out the punch recipe for Friday's party. She was pretty sure this was the one she wanted to go with, though she was eyeing the amount of vodka it called for and wondering if twelve ounces was really enough, since a fifth seemed to have, like, twice that?

"You're coming to the party on Friday, right?" she asked Tiny as she carefully mixed up a practice batch of the punch, with the actually-prescribed amount of vodka. "We're decorating cookies."

Because that was the hook, and not the inflatable reindeer or the jello shots or the way she was strongly considering boozing up a Sandra Lee punch recipe.

Tiny remained noncommittal, for the record.

You better believe Diego was stopping by tonight. It had been a miserable six or so days. Not that Diego had been counting down or anything.

"Hey," he said, taking a seat at the bar. "You're back."

He, of course, tried to act cool about it.

Annie could be cool, too. See how she was just smiling like the world's biggest dork, and not actually vaulting over the bar to greet Diego the way she wanted to? So cool.

"I'm back," she confirmed, leaning her elbows on the bar. "And I appreciate you all not doing anything exciting at all while I was gone."

Though she knew that the lack of excitement had not made it easy for him, either, considering she had been seeking out every distraction she could in Iowa.

"Aww, you could've," Annie assured him, clearly touched that he'd held off. "I would've probably run into Des Moines to patrol on my own if I weren't worried about running into old teammates. Not that like, anything was probably happening anyway."

Stupid cozy togetherness holiday and its general lack of associated crime!

"Rey!" Oh, Rey, she was so glad to see you. "So, first of all, did you have a nice Thanksgiving?"

Annie was just naturally cordial and friendly, yes, but she might have been laying it on a little thicker than usual given how many things she knew had shown up at Rey's door this week.

"Volunteered," Annie told her with a little shrug. "And then spent a lot of time with my mother, so I'm glad to be back."

She reached under the bar for her purse. "I totally brought you a present."

"A present?" Yeah, she knew it was probably an apology/suck up gift but she also didn't get a lot of those.

Steve sat down at the bar and slid a small box across the bar to her with a grin. "Saw these in a gift shop on Maui and had to get them for you."

Holiday cocktail umbrellas were good gifts, right?

"Oh my gosh, Steve, thank you!" Annie's excitement was completely sincere, since cocktail umbrellas were darling in general, and holiday-ing them up was even better. "I should've brought you something corn-shaped. Did you guys have a nice Thanksgiving?"

Of course she assumed he spent it with Danny. She'd actually be kind of worried if they hadn't been together for the holiday.

"We did," Steve said, smiling. "Got back to Hawai'i and found that my sister, her daughter and my aunt were all surprising me for Thanksgiving. Turns out my sister still can't cook."

"Girl after my own heart," Annie decided with a smile. "But that's a nice surprise! It was actually Thanksgiving there?"

Danny had explained the weirdness over Halloween, when Annie had been curious about Grace's costume, so hearing that things might have lined up was pretty nice.

Eric was in the back, returned from Shreveport and the busiest non-Mardi Gras weekend of the year.

He never, ever wanted to deal with that many people reliving old high school grudges while drinking and hiding from their families again.
