Sabine's warehouse- Tuesday evening

In their free time, Sabine and Astrid had been working on a commission. A commission that was actually too big and too detailed to work on in their room if they still wanted to be able to do things like move around and sleep.

With it finally being done, and being Christmas week, it was all ready for pickup. Which, Sabine realized belatedly, meant Nina finally had access to the explosives-laden warehouse but that was probably fine.

Like, really, the only reason Nina hadn't snooped here too much before was that she knew there were explosives there and she hadn't really needed them!

And also that Sabine wouldn't want her to. That too.

"Saaaaaaaaabiiiiiiiiiine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Nina knocked on the door, not sure if Sabine was already in there and figuring that, like, warning was fair.

She could bust in if Sabine didn't answer!

Nina's way of saying hi to her was better than any doorbell.

Smiling, Sabine went to answer the door. "Sorry, did you need something?"

"A painting!!!!!!!!!!!!" And, oh, but she was bouncing as she said that. "And, like, I brought cake and drinks to celebrate the completion of it because you guys are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

She hadn't even seen it yet but she meant it.

"In that case, you may enter," Sabine said, opening the door wider to let her into the very, very painted warehouse. It was everywhere. Murals on the wall, on the floor, random stuff decorated just because. "Also you didn't have to do that."

"Of course I did," Nina scoffed, grinning as she entered The Forbidden Zone with bright eyes. "You both deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!"

And the paycheque that had come with this was a different thing entirely than cake. One was professional the other was personal.

"Besides," she added, "I like cooking!!!!!!!! And I love what you've done with the place!!!!!!!!!!"

"Thanks. My goal is to have the rest of it covered before graduation," Sabine said, holding her arms out to take some stuff. "We can set that down over here."

The bonus to needing a lot of workspace was always having an available folding table.

Nina offered her the drinks (in a reusable bag) to take, since that made the paper plates and cups much less of a burden to cart around with the cake.

"Even the ceiling??????????" Nina asked, glancing upwards even as she headed where Sabine had indicated.

"Maybe. I always did want to get that Northern Lights ceiling somewhere," Sabine admitted as she put the bag down on the table. "I'm not sure I'd have time to do it all."

Nina set the cake down gently, then the plates and cups too.

She grinned at Sabine.

"You could, if you made it a priority," she said earnestly.

"We'll see. I still have a mural from the last week to put up, and there are plenty of places around town that still need my signature."

She hadn't quite painted the whole town yet, but she was getting there.

And it was much improved by her work!

"The Bookbelt could use your touch," she said brightly. "But, like, I'm here for what I hear is a magnificent piece of art!!!!!!!!!!!"

"It is magnificent, just as ordered," Sabine said modestly.

She'd also set the paining up against a wall with a tarp over it because she figured Nina would appreciate the drama of it.

"Are you ready for the big reveal?"

Nina loved the drama of it! She shivered theatrically.

"I'll never be ready!!!!!!!!!!!" she proclaimed, already bouncing over to stand in front of the be-tarped painting. "But ohmygosh, yes!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Sabine went to the painting, pulled the tarp off with a flourish, and revealed a giant, ridiculous painting of the crown prince of Insomnia hanging from a sword from the top of the tallest building of the city while said city spun around him.

Including that mounted fish from the thing that time. And with a burrito blanket incorporated.

Sabine still didn't quite understand that part but a job was a job.

Nina stared at it, eyes greedily taking in all the fine details, even as she squealed with glee.

"It's peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerfeeeeeeeect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

She was pretty sure Noctis would think so too, even if he didn't say so.

"And that's exactly the reaction I was hoping you'd have," Sabine smiled.

Was she also expecting a hug? Because Nina, still squeaking with glee, flung herself at Sabine.

She was not!

"I'm glad you like it," Sabine laughed, hugging her back.

"It's sooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she gushed, beaming, hugging her a moment longer before bouncing away to study the painting some more. "This must have taken you both ages!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Turns out collaboration helps a lot with this kind of thing," Sabine told her. "It was fun to do."

With there being talk of Nina finally picking up that painting she had had her and Sabine do for her, Astrid was hoping to get done with work before it was whisked away. Because it really was....something...and needed to be admired at least one last tine.

She knocked to sort of announce her entry, but since she'd been in and out to work on the painting so much lately, that was mostly a courtesy before letting herself in.

And just sort of marveling a little, because even though she'd had a hand in it, it was still sort of a marvel that it existed at all.

"Kind of a shame it's going off to some completely distant planet where we'll never see it again," she mused.

They'd done damn fine work, though. Surprising no one.

"I have taken so many pictures," Sabine said. "If that makes you feel any better. Including detail shots."

Sooooo many detail shots, because it was awesome.

"So did I," Astrid assured Sabine with a grin. "It's not many artists that can add 'space royalty portraitures' to their portfolio where I'm from, after all."

Nor would it leas anyone to believe she was anything but crazy, but that could actually help her career rather than harm it.

"You're going to call it that, right?" Sure, the outside world might not understand things like space royalty outside of movies, but that didn't mean she shouldn't own it.

"Oh, absolutely," Astrid assured her with a confident nod. "That alone will bring them in without even having seen the work. People love eccentric creators..."

Case in point, just look at her mother.

"And it's easier to get publicity," Sabine agreed. "Mainly it's just ambitious and great.

"I offer cake in return???????????" Nina tried hopefully.

Okay, she and Prompto had also shelled over a rather lot of money to each of them but, like, that was that and this was this.

Money that was honestly not needed, but very welcome. Astrid was running out of time on that whole emancipation thing...

"Cake is acceptable," Astrid decided, with a small smile and a nod, before venturing into what she REALLY wanted to know.

"So? What do you think, dearest patron of these fine arts?"

Nina held up her fork thoughtfully as she studied the painting.

(She already had so many pictures of it and it was killing her not to be able to post them anywhere.)

"I think it's fantastic," she said finally, seriously. "Even better than I could have hoped!!!!!!!!!!!!"
