The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Octavia had missed her last two shifts because of the trip over the holidays, but that seemed to matter to the club about as little as it had to her. Tiny hadn't said anything about it, he'd just handed her some book on mixing drinks when she'd come in.

And now she was leafing through it behind the bar, occasionally looking around the shelves for the things listed for a given drink.

The club was quiet, save for the obvious, mellow soundtrack of whatever was on the piano bar playlist for tonight.

Dante had said he'd swing by with music, and swing by with music he did.

Well, with his phone, which had a lot of loud aggrotech on it. "Hey, Octavia," he called. "I'm bringing the jams!"

Octavia looked up from her book with an expression like 'bringing the what now?'

(Had he missed how much she communicated with as little as possible?)

Dante held up his phone. "Music?" he called. "Where can I plug this shit in?"

Octavia gestured towards the lately largely abandoned DJ booth.

"Over there, probably."

"Cool," Dante said, and vanished off into that direction.

Lucifer was definitely not going to approve of what came out of the speakers shortly afterward.

But Lucifer wasn't here to judge right now.

There was just Octavia, faintly raising her eyebrows at the severe change of atmosphere that seemed to cause for this entire space.

Dante wandered up to the bar with a massive grin on his face. "Told you I'd bring the loud stuff," he said.

"Yeah, seems like you have," Octavia replied with her typical dry drawl. Hard to say what she thought about it. "You want a drink to go with it?"

"You got any strawberry vodka back there?" Dante asked immediately.

"Likely disgusting," Octavia rasped, "but probably, yeah."

She was looking, anyway.

Duke came in a bit late, after his class. For which he rather felt he deserved a drink with his snogon.

"Ha yun, gona."

Octavia looked up from her cocktail book again.

Didn't quite smile, but... He was well familiar with her small expressions. He'd know this was one of those that counted towards smiling.

"Ha yun, jaka."

He did. And he gave her a smile back as he slid onto the barstool in front of her. He nodded to her cocktail book. "Nice read?"

Octavia shrugged a little.

"It's just drinks," she said, lifting it up so he could see the cover.

"Drinks are fun, though. You learn to make anything interesting?"

"Define interesting."

They were drinks.

"Something that you'd maybe want to try to actually make?"

Octavia shrugged again. Went back a few pages, then turned the book around on the bar so he could see the page she'd landed on.

"Maybe this one."

It was a Whiskey Smash.

Duke looked it over and smiled. "Sounds delightful. I think you should give it a shot."

He was especially pleased to note that it used bourbon, yes.

That may have been a factor in Octavia going for it.

No shrug, this time. She pulled the book back, and righted it so she could see what the ingredients were, and could start gathering them.

"Did you have your class today?" she asked, as she grabbed a lemon to work with.
