"Hey, so were you a little kid this weekend?" Annie greeted Tiny, who barely looked up from the glass he was wiping. "I was. I was four."

And when he didn't answer her, Annie continued, "It would've been kind of funny if you'd been little this weekend."

Aaaand cue Tiny starting to walk away from her.

"Because you would've actually been tiny!" And off he went into the back, where he likely couldn't hear her yell, "It wouldn't have just been ironic!"

Anyway. The bar was open, Annie was here, and she was her normal five-foot-six.

That's what that one word greeting possibly meant.

Fortunately, Annie was pretty used to Jessica by now and she totally heard all of that in the greeting, even as she got the bottle and poured a glass of bourbon for her.

"So," Annie had to know, sliding it over, "were you a very little Jessica Jones this weekend, or did you get to stay an adult?"

There was a negative grunt in response to that question. "No," she said wrapping her fingers around the glass and taking a long sip. "I woke up to a small child screaming on the radio and spent the weekend locked in my apartment as any sane individual would do."

"Lucky you. That was smart," Annie told her. "I was four and a real handful." Although not as big a handful as she could have been, considering that the island's power grid was still perfectly intact.

"That does not surprise me at all," Jessica said with a small chuckle of amusement. "Exactly how were you a handful? Tomboy with scuffed knees? Pretty princess with outrageous clothing choices? Book nerd with a copy of meta Where the Red Fern Grows?"

"I wasn't really allowed to have sugar as a little kid," Annie told her. Or, really, as a big kid, either. "Took full advantage of my parents not being here. And I also wore my Starlight outfit all weekend."

Which had certainly been a Choice.

"How much did you actually have when it was all done?" Jessica said leaning back on her stool. It was one thing to experience being a child. It was another to hear about someone else's experience.

"Danny made me eat some applesauce at one point," Annie said, thinking back, "but I think my tally is somewhere around ten donuts and three or four cookies."

"I don't think Diego's recovered yet," Annie admitted. "I was a lot. And I kept escaping."

"The latter," Annie helpfully clarified. "Though he did threaten me with arrest for swearing at one point so I don't think locking me up was entirely off the table."

"I said 'shit,'" Annie told her, sighing. "Under coercion! I was basically dared!" And also she had really wanted to, because Annie had been a very restricted child and this whole weekend had been about rule-breaking.

"Well, was it just a dare or a double-dog dare?" Jessica teased. "Because if it was a double-dog dare, you're pretty much obligated to do it."

She was about to take a drink when a thought hit her. "What would your mom have done if you had dropped a naughty word like that within earshot?"

"I was called a chicken," Annie told her, because there had been stakes. "And if my mom had heard? I would've gotten full-named, yanked by my ear, and stuck in time-out. And I would've had to confess it at church, probably."

Her dad would have probably laughed, though.

"Well. Clearly your mom has never been on a playground before. Because that's justified cause. Any court in the world would have agreed with that," Jessica said finishing her drink.
