Summer was probably never going to get over being completely bummed out that her first weekend to fulfill her agreement to visit home more and go back to family counselling fell on the weekend where everyone was little and adorable. Like, ugh! Great timing there, Mom! And it definitely did not help that Apu, who had very much remained his insufferable adult self, was insisting on showing Summer all of the pictures of the wee little baby cheese panda that they had gotten instead.

Thankfully, Summer was able to escape the cuteness for a little bit since she did have work to do.

Still, it was hard to completely forget images of a little baby panda clinging angrily to someone's leg or trying to carry around a cheese wheel just as big as he was.

"Ohmygod," she had to pause to look witheringly over at the back to normal panda looking just surly and mean and way too protective over certain dairy products, "why couldn't you have just stayed like that? We would be selling so much cheese right now..."

Because, honestly, who would be able to say no? Sure, you were still being aggressively cornered to purchase cheese, but it would be done by something that was adorable!

Life was just, like, so unfair.

There had been children running around the island this weekend. So Jessica spent the entire time locked in her apartment and drinking.

Which is why there are so many bottles coming to the register. So many bottles.

"Summer," Jessica said with a nod.

...

Yep. That was her saying hello.

"Jessica."

And that was Summer not failing at holding back a small smirk at the significant collection of bottles, really! But it was reassuring that, while she may have missed out on everyone being all cute and little this weekend, at least there would be plenty of good sales going on to make up for it!

"Time for a restock?"

"Shit happened this weekend. I stayed inside so... yeah."

Please note she had no problem going out during the Fandom Advent issues. Children were scary.

"I assume you were cute and adorable this weekend?"

"Well," Summer noted, a little too cheerfully, as she started to ring up all that booze, "at least it sounds like you got to enjoy yours before replacing it!"

Because she was not even the only one to have to restock this weekend!

"And no. I mean, well, yes, I was, obviously, but that's because I'm always cute and adorable. But if you mean cute and adorable and little, then no. I was actually back home this weekend so I missed everything."

Allow her a moment to pout over her very, very strong difference of opinion regarding this particular weekend whackiness than yours, Jessica. Because, ohgod, even if she was little herself, the missed opportunities! Especially if she was little herself!

"Talk about timing! Now watch, all the weekends I am actually here will probably be terrible ones."

"See you better knock on something or go outside and spit," Jessica warned. "Kitty said something about everything being normal and look what happened. She is so getting shit tomorrow."

Summer shrugged. "There's going to be terrible weekends and good weekends regardless," she pointed out. "It's all just a matter of time, and everything mostly goes back to normal once everything's said and done, so it doesn't really matter. Life goes on. Just take it as it comes and buy more booze. Is anything around here really even normal, anyway?"

A small pause.

"I'm just low-key pissed I missed getting to see my friends as little kids. Even the panda was little, Jessica. The panda! Do you know how cute that is?"

Even Jessica had to admit that baby pandas were adorable, right?

"I'm sure it was quite adorable," Jessica replied and doing her best not to roll her eyes.

In truth, baby pandas were adorable. But Jessica would never admit that to anyone. "But your advice is good. I'll just take it as it comes."

Come to think of it.

"Hang on. I'm getting a few more bottles."

Clearly to stock up on disaster supplies.

"I'll knock an extra ten percent off for every ten bottles~!" Summer called out with sing-song cheerfulness after her, wondering if she should also offer to call a rickshaw to help Jessica cart whatever she wound up with home.

"That discount I'll take you up on," Jessica said returning with bottles that would bring the count to an even ten. "Do I still get the hot girl discount or is that only with Shunsui?"

Hey, now, Astrid was completely willing to honor that discount, too.

Summer, however, was just going to roll her eyes. "Yeah, no," she said. "That is strictly a Wednesday only deal. I like my discounts to have a practical application, and not rest on the gross objectification of our customers based on entirely superficial critera."

Said as if she'd never given someone a discount for being cute before.

Do not check the receipts on that.

But at least Summer wasn't blatant about it, right?

"Hmm. Really? You know the owner and I are fr-"

Yep. Nope. Never mind. She was not going to play that card.

"Forget it, I'll just take the 10%."

You know, the funny thing about deciding on whether or not to play a card was that, generally speaking, you didn't flip the card over halfway before deciding to tuck it back into your hand.

Granted, it didn't really matter much when someone already knew what you were holding, but the fact that Jessica almost did actually go there quirked Summer's eyebrows a little.

"I'll make it fifteen," she decided.

Though it should be noted that it was out of sympathy (pity?) more than anything else. Athough, really, since the owner in question had been the one to clear out most of the sake in the booze section earlier that day...

There was an unsteady moment where Jessica was tempted to say "fuck it" and walk away.

But she wasn't a total idiot. And just nodded, pulling out her wallet.
