Astrid had swung by to check her mail before heading into the store that day, and she'd actually found the letter she had anticipated receiving. That didn't mean she was actually ready to deal with it, and so a good part of her shift was spent staring at the envelop in her hand, addressed to her, with the neat little logo in the corner identifying the Department of Child Support Services of California as the sender.
She was pretty sure she knew what it said inside without having to open it.
She was still incredibly reluctant to open it.

With a deep breath, after a while, she finally tucked it away, insider the pages of her sketchbook, unopened, and tried to focus on other tasks for a little bit, working with a focus and eagerness that mostly left Apu feeling suspicious, like she wasn't ever a good worker around here when she wanted to be.
