All the balloons and streamers from the birthday on Wednesday were still up on Friday, and Astrid offered to help Apu take them all down and clean up, which was met with instant suspicion, but she supposed that was...slightly fair, because she did have an ulterior motive.

And that motive was to take all the streamers and actually wrap them around the balloons in artistic ways and make bizarre little balloon-ghost art pieces out of them. She got some paint and some of the other craft supplies from that aisle, too, to make them more interesting, little abstract testiments to artroom projects that paid tribute to the great: a Mona Lisa balloon, a Thinker, a Venus di Milo and a winged Nike. One particularly long balloon worked perfectly as Munch's Scream, and she tied two together in an elaborate way to channel a bit of Klimt.

It was when she realized she started transitioning into some Guernica level creations that she realized she should probably take a break from the balloon art and just maybe go help stock some soup cans or something.

Whatever. It had been a good distraction for a while, anyway.

So for whatever reason meme Jessica had drank virtually all her booze on Wednesday.

Honestly it was a feat of endurance that even amazed herself.

However now there was the important task of gathering a bunch of Wild Fowl (Wild Turkey knockoff) bourbon and heading to the register. "Not done yet," she informed Astrid, as she threw a book of postcards on the pile of bottles at the register.

And then she headed back for more.

Avoiding the Cheese Panda as always.

Astrid found herself increasingly more curious about how much Jessica was planning on returning with the longer she was gone, and once she did return, there was definitely going to be a sort of expectant look to wait and see if one more trip was necessary before she said anything.

She came back with five more bottles.

Put them on the counter.

And went back and returned with five more bottles.

"You got heavy duty bags for this right?" she asked.

"We can also offer a complimentary rickshaw service," Astrid offered, as she started to ring the bottle up, which might take a while, clearly, before asking, "Big plans for the weekend?"

Not out of judgement. Or even curiosity, really. Just mostly out of some kind of obligation, like it was the sort of thing she'd be expected to say.

"Nah. Just went through my supplies and needed to restock. Do you have one of those stupid frequent buyer cards?"

"No." Astrid's faint smile was somewhat apologetic. "Not really. We kind of have a monopoly on groceries around here, so I guess everyone's a frequent shopper by default. Maybe it's something to bring up to Summer..."

There was a pause before the grin went a little wry.

"Great employee discount, though."

Jessica knew Shunsui well enough that he wasn't the one running things around here. "Oh yeah. And what is the employee discount?"

"Twenty-five percent," said Astrid with a shrug of her shoulder. "Which doesn't sound like much..." Her eyes drifted to the growing collection of bagged booze. "But it adds up. And stacks on other promos. Also? Unlimited Squishies."

So they all knew what the real selling point was.
