Around the Island (literally), Saturday
Octavia did not tend to spend a whole lot of time near the surface, let alone near placed where people with legs lived. But, this morning, a curious thing had happened: she'd woken up on a boat! In a bed that was dry and weird and not at all made of seaweed!
It hadn't been her favorite experience. Even though there'd been some fascinating things in there, there had also not been much room for someone who was half tail, and air was so much more cumbersome to move around in than water. So she'd climbed her way out, and made a great big splash when she'd returned to her proper surroundings.
But she hadn't left the island, just yet. Oh, no, this was far too interesting! She kept swimming around the island, occasionally clambering onto convenient rocks - and there were a lot of convenient, smooth rocks - to sit and just watch, sometimes excitably waving when she saw someone near the shore.
Her hair was improbably dry and perfectly curled, of course. No matter how recently she'd come out of the water.
[ooc: Are you on a quest and think a magical creature might be able to help you along, or do you just want to gawk at a mermaid? Either way, post is so open!]

But he was determined not to let any stone go unturned.
"Excuse me, miss?" he called out over to her. "Pardon me if this is terribly rude of me to ask, but I don't suppose you've recently had feet, have you?"
no subject
And then back up at him again, now with a curious head tilt.
"Are those the things at the end of legs?"
That would be a no.
no subject
There was...a pause.
"I fear we do not need you to try the shoe on to determine that is is probably not you..."
no subject
But then she looked between the shoe - what curious things, shoes - and her tail fin. And then she heaved a big sigh.
"No, I guess not."
no subject
"I suppose," he ventured, because he really did feel compelled to explore all possibilities, "it still might not hurt to try?"
He had one duty in life, after all. He would feel terrible if he'd messed it up.

She swished the end of her tail back and forth a little, before actually lifting it out of the water.

He had made a very valiant attempt to make it somehow work, though. Even if it did only seem to cup the very curve of it and little more.
"Well," he said, shaking his head, "I suppose my search continues..."
no subject
There was a big ol' pout happening, yes.
"Well," she said. "Good luck?"
no subject
"Thank you," he said, bowing again after he straightened back up, turned smartly on his heels, and marched off to find the next potential maiden.
Hopefully one with actual feet this time...
no subject
Well, couldn't put his finger on it until he spotted a familiar figure resting on a rock not far from his house, and-- "What on Earth?"
no subject
Beaming the whole time, of course.
no subject
Somehow he doubted it.
no subject
Well. Yes, but definitely no.
Her tail fin fluttered a little as she peered curiously at him.
"You know me?"
no subject
no subject
"I've always had one!" she said. "All mermaids have tails, silly."
no subject
In case she wasn't aware.
no subject
And gave him a cheeky grin, because was he sure he didn't want to reconsider his stance on that?

"I am on a quest to save my true love--" he sang. Because you know, sometimes plot points needed to be reinforced.
no subject
"Ooh," she said to herself. "What's that?"

"Can you find me a prince?"

He glanced up at Steve. "Steve's prince got himself enchanted today. It was super bad break."
