Devil's Nest | Monday Night

There had been a shipment of little cocktail umbrellas today, and given their abundance, Annie was happily putting them in everything.

Beer? Cocktail umbrella.

Straight bourbon? Cocktail umbrella.

Glass of water? Cocktail umbrella.

There was also, naturally, one in Annie's hair - though Tiny had declined when she'd offered one to him.

Jessica walked in to the Nest and immediately saw the theme going on. And was very cautious approaching the bar.

"Bourbon. Hold the umbrella," she said to Annie giving her a look

"But Jess, it's the thing I'm doing today," Annie told her with a pout as she dutifully ignored her umbrellas and got the drink. "It's fun."

"If this is your idea of fun, I feel very sorry for Diego," Jessica joked.

And then sighed at the pout.

"Fine. Give me the fucking umbrella."

"Diego puts up with a lot," Annie replied with a smile as she plunked an umbrella in the glass of bourbon before sliding it over. "And just like you, I think it's because he secretly isn't as grumpy as he wants everyone to think."

That's right, Jessica, she was calling you a soft touch.

"I don't usually care what people think of me," Jessica said giving Annie a long look...

And then threw the umbrella at Tiny. With the pointy end.

"I'm not secret about being grumpy."

It's just that some people get it less than others.

"No, the secret is that you're nice," Annie said fondly, watching that umbrella fly. "There is so much misery in the world. Let's take our joy where we can find it." And just for that, she was reaching over to throw a new umbrella in Jessica's drink. "With tiki accessories."

Jessica half sulked/half glared at Annie. "I'm not nice," she replied bluntly as she took a sip of her drink.

But did not remove the umbrella.

"And all evidence to the contrary is very thin."

"It can be our secret," Annie decided conspiratorially, winking at her just to be annoying about it. "How are you? I didn't see you at the world's weirdest pool party this weekend."

“I was off partying with the raccoons,” Jessica admitted before adding : “And making fun of ugly children. And kicking random dogs and cats.”

If the squirrels got word that Jessica was nice she would be pissed.

"Poor ugly kids," Annie sighed. "It's not their fault. And aren't you worried about, like, rabies? Are you immune at this point?"

"Well it's not like they're going to bite their best human customer," Jessica pointed out. "And if they tried to bite me they wouldn't be around for long. Plus they make shots for that."
