The Beach, Saturday afternoon

Was it freezing? Yes. Yes, it was.

But that didn't matter to a very young corgi with far too much energy, so Steve and Tony had bundled up and taken Patriot out to the beach to run.

And run.

And run.

For having such short little legs, the dog could go.

"So," Steve said to Tony, shoving his hands into his coat pockets, "coffee after this? If Patriot ever, ever gets tired?"

"You owe me so much coffee," Tony agreed, huddling close to him as the dog just went ham.

"I know," Steve said, chuckling. "Sorry to drag you out of the lab."

"I guess I needed to see what the sun looked like again." Still a ball of light in the sky. Yep.

"It's that or installing UV lights like people use for plants," Steve teased.

"It's winter," he sighed. Well, whined, really.

"It'll be spring soon," Steve said. "Spring Break's tomorrow, after all."

"Japan," he agreed. "I'm going to make you eat so much food there."

"Will I know what any of it is?" Steve asked.

"You will know some of it," he promised. "You've had ramen, right?"

[heroic_jawline]

"Noodle soup," Steve said, nodding.

"And you've had sushi," he added. "Just picture all of that, but it's better and fresher."

"I can work with that," Steve said. "What's your favorite thing to eat in Japan?"

Tony hummed, leaning into his side. "Yakitori. You go into these little shops and they grill all the parts of the chicken and you drink cheap beer the whole time."

Which didn't sound like a Tony Stark thing, which was possibly why he liked it so much.

Steve laughed. "Is it because no one looks for you there?"

"Maybe," he admitted with a laugh.

Steve kissed him between the eyes. "I knew it."

"You'll like it, I promise." Hopefully Steve would enjoy the chicken innards on a stick part of it.

Tell him what it was after he ate it, maybe?

"I'm looking forward to it," Steve said. "Hopefully the kids will behave themselves."

"Aw, they seem like a good bunch." They didn't have Five in their class to know better.

"They do," Steve said optimistically. "Patriot," he called. "Out of the surf!"

"He's going to need a warm bath after this," Tony sighed.

[heroic_jawline]

"Yes, but then he'll crash out for the night," Steve said. "Oh, speaking of the pup, Nat will be over tomorrow morning to come get him for the week."

"Good," he sighed. "Jan wanted to watch him just so she could do photoshoots."

The dog would end up with so many clothes.

Steve burst out laughing. "Oh, that poor dog. He dodged a bullet."

"The number of treats he'd get," Tony added. "We'd have to roll him home."

She was worse than Tony about it!

"Lucky pup dodged a diet and exercise regimen too," Steve said, laughing. "I'll tell Nat."

"Thank you, dear," Tony said, kissing his cheek.

[heroic_jawline]

"You know this means there's a 50/50 shot she'll get the clothes from Jan anyway," Steve said.

"...well. At least he'll be fashionable," he said with a little sigh.

[heroic_jawline]

"Something all dogs worry about," Steve said dryly. "I think he's finally slowing down."

"Are you sure?" He was trying to haul a piece of driftwood bigger than himself over toward them. It was adorable.

[heroic_jawline]

"Well, maybe," Steve said, tilting his head. "Sure he hasn't gotten some super serum?"

"...oh god, that would be so adorable," Tony had to admit.

[heroic_jawline]

"He could do all of my PSAs," Steve said immediately.

[imafuturist]

Which caused a sharp, bark of laughter to come out of Tony, disrupting the dog in his attempt to drag that driftwood home.

"He'd be so much better at them!" Steve insisted.

He'd definitely be better at keeping the impatience out of his eyes.

"He'd end up gnawing on a chair," Tony replied.

[heroic_jawline]

"Who among us hasn't?" Steve teased.

"Only when I'm not allowed to have any coffee."

[heroic_jawline]

"Is that a hint, sweetheart?" Steve asked.

[imafuturist]

"Would I do something like that?" Tony asked innocently.

[heroic_jawline]

"Absolutely," Steve said, grinning.

[imafuturist]

Tony shrugged and kissed him for that. "Then get me a coffee and a hot cocoa for you."

"Coming right up," Steve said. "Meet you at home?" He glanced over at the dog, still fighting with the driftwood. "Maybe not the new friend he's made?"

"Deal," Tony said with a laugh. "Want me to handle the dog?"

Who was now flagging in energy as he slumped a little against his driftwood buddy.

Steve laughed. "Please," he said. "He might need a ride home."

[imafuturist]

"Get me an extra large coffee and I'll even start up the bath for him," Tony promised, going to go scoop up the sleepy, wet dog who was starting to shiver now that he wasn't moving.

Patriot was going to end up inside Tony's jacket with him .

"Deal," Steve said, leaning in to give Tony a quick kiss.

"Love you!" Tony called after him, opening his coat for the dog for the walk home. Poor fella.
