Caritas; Wednesday [03/24].

When Summer came in that evening for her shift, she came in to discover birthday cake. Like...a lot of birthday cake, in several spots around the bar. All over the bar, really. You couldn't go more than a two feet without encountering a birthday cake, almost. Which lead her to conclude just one thing:

"Awwww, Tino! Is it your birthday today?"

She was about to go into a whole thing about why he didn't tell her, but he stopped that whole train of thought by shaking his head and explaining that it was definitely not his birthday, he thought maybe it was Summer's birthday, but, no, it wasn't her birthday, either, so then they tried to figure out if maybe it was one of the zombie's birth...reanimation day? Was it Kitty's birthday? The bar's??

Either way, they had no idea whose birthday it actually was, but there was still birthday cake, so, well, guess they were going to celebrate it anyway!

Hey, the 'Happy Birthday' song is public domain now, so have at it!

Have some drinks, have some jello, have some cake...and speculate on whose birthday it might actually be.

Just don't accidentally sit on a cake. There's definitely cake on the couches.

If you get a bulls-eye in darts, you might get some free cake!

"Happy...birthday?" Annie said, definitely making it a question as she took a seat at the bar and looked from Summer to Tino and back again. "Do we know whose?"

Summer's, she remembered, was in June (because she had totally made a note in her phone, like a nerd.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!

"Not a clue," Summer admitted, with a shrug and a shake of her head, although she realized that this could be a useful device for finding out if it was the birthday of any of her regulars. Clearly, Annie was out, but Summer already knew that.

"But, hey," she said, setting a slice of cake down on the bar for Annie, "free cake, so I'm not going to complain. Thanks, mysterious birthday-having benefactor, am I right?"

She then met Annie with a grin. "Anything else I can get you?"

Annie eyed the cake, which she would probably pick at all night and then try to foist off on Diego. "Ummmm. Water? But like, can we jazz up the water so I'm not like, incredibly boring and you don't hate me?" she tried. "Maybe water with limes or something?"

She made a little face. "I have this, like, major audition thing next week and I'm trying to be really good about my diet and booze and stuff." And she'd just had wine last night, but that was because Danny was having kiss-related crises and they'd been preparing for injured boyfriends. Serious situations.

"Oooooh, liiiiimes," said Summer, who was grinning mostly because she was so glad Annie pretty much predicted that she was going to ask/give her shit about getting just water and covered that base without even a second thought. "Tres exotic, Annie."

But you were so getting the fanciest lime water ever now, Annie. She was throwing in lemons, too, just to make it more exciting. And a sprig of mint. Because she was a professional, dammit!

"And I thought there was a little bit of a squirrel buzz going on about something like that," she added, as she set the fancy-ass water down in front of Annie. "I've been a little distracted by a big catering order from this weekend. Like, how major are we talking? Audition for what? Anything I can do to help?"

She was a pretty good shot if you needed any of the competition's kneecaps busted, or something, Annie!

Hilariously, she had an offer on kneecaps already. (Oh, Jessica Jones, you wily minx, you.)

"Fancy water helps," Annie assured her with a bright smile. "I'm up for, like, the premier superhero team back home, The Seven. They're like...a huge deal. Like, the way I used to protect Des Moines and how I supposedly protect Fandom? They cover the entire United States."

And made so many movies. Annie was less into that part, more into the 'saving people from sea to shining sea!' part.

Just look at all the people willing to go straight for the kneecap on your behalf, An!

Plus, Summer just liked shooting shit. Shut up.

"There are many more variations on fancy water still to come, then," she vowed, before getting comfortable leaning forward on the counter with interest. "So, we're talking the big dogs, huh? That sounds like some serious Vindicator shit right there. I mean, you're obviously a shoe-in, so you won't need it, but good luck. You're gonna crush it."

"So many cakes," Stark said as he entered the bar. "Why so many cakes?"

He wasn't going to turn down free cake. Stark was still himself, after all, but this was odd enough to comment on.

"Serious Vindicator -- stuff, yes," Annie agreed, still off swearing and only vaguely sure that she was right in agreeing there. "I mean, thank you, but I'm still like, working my butt off this week 'cause I know a couple of the girls I'm going to be up against, most likely, from like, my pageant days."

And while Annie's powers were very pretty, she would need to work to make sure that they also came across as scary as they needed to. Because, like, people with lightning powers and the ability to fly and freaking mind control were probably up for this.

Yeah, Summer had a feeling Stark, of all people, was not going to mind the cakes.

She had to shrug, though. "I guess it's someone's birthday?" she said. "We don't know who, but the place seems like celebrating it anyway. I'm definitely not going to complain."

And she doubted Stark would, either, which was why she was already setting down a slice for him.

"What are we drinking today, Stark?"

"Cake as in a shot?" Rey wondered as she sat down.

See, Summer, this had all been normalized.

Rey, it warmed Summer's heart so much that you immediately went to jello in this.

"Nope!" she answered cheerfully. "Cake as in regular, normal," as far as randomly appearing things could be considered normal, "birthday cake."

And, as if to prove it, she set a slice on a paper plate in front of Rey and nudged it forward.

"Before you ask," because everyone asked, "I have no idea whose birthday it actually is, tbh."

If Stark ever started minding cakes, especially free ones, it was time to make sure he hadn't been replaced with a bioloid replica. Again. But the odds of that happening in Fandom were slim.

"A mystery birthday? Not Tino's?" He could picture Tino setting this up. "What drink goes well with mystery birthday cakes?"

You know what Rey was never going to turn down? Food. Also this might be the first time she ever actually had birthday cake.

"Are we sure it's not Tino and he just doesn't want to admit it?"

Jessica came into the bar and gave a hairy eyeball at the special's board.

Nope. Just nope.

"Bourbon," she requested/greeted Summer as she began to pull out various papers from her portable file folder and organize them.

HAPPY BIIIIIIIIIIIIIRTHDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

"Oooh, cake," Lucifer announced upon entry.

No, he didn't care why there was cake.

Jesse walked into the bar, and... stopped. Frowned.

And nudged a large cake with her foot.

"Have any of them moved in the last thirty minutes?"
