Steve's run with Annie on Saturday had inspired him to teach the Troopers some of the SEAL cadence calls as they ran today, which meant that afterwards, he was doing a Powerpoint presentation explaining all of the references in the song.

"Okay, so a C-130 is an Air Force cargo plane that takes the SEALs to our operations--"

The Trooper Station was open! Save them from Powerpoint.

Danny walked into the station, ready for a normal day, saw the PowerPoint going on and walked right on back out. He was gonna need a big ol' coffee to deal with this today.

Which was why he returned, twenty minutes later, drink in hand.

"I thought I saw you," Steve said, grinning. "You're just in time to hear my explanation of the lean and rest."

"You know what, I think I strained my eyes the other night. Probably shouldn't push it," Danny lied unabashedly to Steve's face. Just daring him to call it out.

"Oh, if reading'll be too tough, you can demonstrate by showing the proper push up position."

The lean and rest. So fun!

"Push ups," Danny repeated like he really couldn't believe Steve would do this, but also at the same time, completely expected it.

Steve nodded. "It's in the song."

Helpful, huh?

"Is this one of the songs you're not allowed to sing around my daughter?" Danny asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

"It does have a thing about knifing Satan, so probably," Steve admitted.

[hatesparadise]

"Knifing Satan?" Steve, he needed you to explain that one. Stat.

Steve beamed at him. "When I go to Hell, Satan, he will say," he sang,"'How'd you earn your living, how you'd earn your pay?' I reply as I clench my knife, get out of my way before I take your life--"

Totally normal song, Danno.

Danny snorted and rolled his eyes. "Remind me to go along to Pearl with you next time to hear more of these."

"They're fun," Steve said, laughing. "I taught some to Annie."

[hatesparadise]

"You were showing off to Annie, huh?" He knew you, Steven.

[grenadesandohana]

"Would I do that?" Steve replied.

[hatesparadise]

"Yeah, babe. You would."

[grenadesandohana]

"I didn't teach her the one about shanking Satan," he said.

Just the troopers.

[hatesparadise]

"Oh, well," Danny said like he truly appreciated Steve's restraint. "In that case..."

[grenadesandohana]

"I taught her the one that slags all of the other Special Forces," Steve said, beaming like he was proud of himself.

Because he was.

[hatesparadise]

"If I catch wind of my daughter singing that in gym class, you're in some serious trouble, mister."

That was already a lost cause, wasn't it?

"It's extremely catchy," Steve admitted.

[hatesparadise]

"Damn it, Steven." As long as he didn't get called to the office about it.

Steve grinned in what he wrongly thought was a winning way.

"God, you're lucky I like you," Danny sighed.

[grenadesandohana]

"Most of the time I am," Steve said, grinning back.

[hatesparadise]

"Real lucky," Danny said, jabbing a finger at him.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve wrinkled his nose up at him in reply.

"You gonna demonstrate push ups for the troopers or are those muscles just for show?"

How was that a normal thing to say to your coworker?

Compared to Sexual Harassment Seminar Weekend, this was normal?

"My muscles are not for show," Steve said, looking insulted.

[hatesparadise]

They were not allowed to go to that seminar together. Just not allowed.

Danny shrugged and looked him over like he wasn't too sure on that one.

[grenadesandohana]

"I hate you so much," Steve lied, dropping down immediately into the proper push-up position. "This is the lean and rest," he told the Troopers. "First person to beat me in push ups gets me to buy 'em coffee. Danno, you too."

[hatesparadise]

"I have a coffee right here," Danny pointed out, lifting up his extra large cup. "And you love me, you putz."

[grenadesandohana]

"You just know you can't do as many pushups," Steve said, already getting started.

[hatesparadise]

"Because I, for one, enjoy having feeling in my arms for the rest of the day," Danny pointed out. Also, he could enjoy the view a little bit. Covertly.

"You could feel your arms just fine if you did more pushups," Steve said, not even breathing hard.

[hatesparadise]

"I think my arms are just fine the way they are," Danny countered, tempted to put something on Steve's back to see how that went. "Also, these shirts don't come in a six pack if my shoulders bulk."

[grenadesandohana]

"Now you know why I buy in bulk," Steve said smugly. "Twenty-five, 26, 27--"

[hatesparadise]

"Oh, is that why? And not that you're a cheap bastard?" Danny asked, hopping up to sit on the corner of Steve's desk.

[grenadesandohana]

"Two things can be true at the same time," Steve said, smirking as he stopped in push-up position for a moment. "And this position is how the instructors would have us stay," he told the Troopers, "and then yell at us for a while. Spending our lives in the lean and rest."

There were murmurs of understanding.

[hatesparadise]

"That was how the academy was," Danny replied. "And I'm very glad to be out of it."

Ergo, he wouldn't be willingly repeating the process.

"Did they have you do Really Strong Guy Who Can Fly pushups?" Steve asked.

[hatesparadise]

There was a little eye-twitch at the memory of it that probably gave it all away. "Luckily I was pretty athletic back then."

[grenadesandohana]

"Does that mean you can't do them any more?" Steve teased, shifting his hands so that one was above his head and one was down closer to chest level and then doing multiple push-ups like the jackass he was.

At least his shirt was still on?

Small mercies!

"You're not gonna trick me into doing push ups, Steven," Danny said with a laugh.

"How about the dive bomber?" Steve asked.

[hatesparadise]

"Steven." He was at least amused by Steve's weird need to show off here.

At least in here Steve Rogers wasn't jogging past effortlessly. Steve could win here!

"That a no, Daniel?"

[hatesparadise]

"That is very much a no," he replied dryly. "But don't let me stop you from getting your manliness all over the place."

"Well, that sounds unhygienic," Steve complained.
