Trooper Station, Monday, April 5, 2021

Steve had taken the Navy's "if you're too tired to stand up, you're too tired to make poor decision" mantra to heart, and so after getting coffee at the Perk and saying hello to Jaye, he got to the Trooper Station and led them all in running up and down the stairs while chanting annoying Navy cadences.

How had he never noticed how many were euphemistic? Maybe those were just the only ones coming to mind?

So now he was back in the office trying not to notice how the Troopers' armor gave them all pretty nice butts. What the hell was going on with his brain?

Of course Jaye stopped by, as promised.

"Where are my push-ups?"

Steve grinned. "Go on," he said to the Troopers. "Show her the Really Strong Man Who Can Fly ones."

There was a chorus of snorts from under helmets. "No," came the reply.

"You could always demonstrate," Jaye pointed out.

You couldn't even see the troopers' arms, come on.

"Okay," Steve said, grinning and dropping down to the floor before doing twenty ridiculous push-ups.

"Okay, that's showing off, and I'm not complaining," Jaye said, tilting her head a little.

It was maybe more impressive that he didn't put up an argument.

Steve grinned as he got back up off the ground. "I learned in the SEALs never to question being told to do push-ups. It only ended in grief."

"On the plus side, it's impressive."

And look at her not trying to squeeze his bicep! Praise her.

"Thank you," Steve said, grinning. "I worked hard."

[fates_jaye]

"Oh, it shows," she assured him.

Danny would never stop giving him shit for this if he learned.

"Well, that's...30 percent of the reason to work out, right?"

Mission readiness, healthy lifestyle, impressing people. Checks out.

"Only 30?"

That was both kinda flirty and also a real question from a person who had not worked out since sophomore year gym class.

"Mission readiness always comes first," Steve said, nodding.

Possibly only for Steve.

Well, points for an unsexy answer there at least.

"Okay I guess that's a good thing?"

[grenadesandohana]

"The Navy thinks so," Steve said with a grin.

[fates_jaye]

"And for the rest of us, there's 40 percent," she said.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve laughed. "You're not concerned about mission readiness?" he teased.

[fates_jaye]

"It's not the part I'm focusing on, no," Jaye admitted.

[grenadesandohana]

"Which part are you focused on?"

Stop flexing, Steve, it's douchey.

"That part you're flexing right there."

That... sounded bad.

Steve chuckled. "Oh. That makes sense."

[fates_jaye]

"You're having too much fun with this," she decided.

[grenadesandohana]

"I'm not entirely sure what this is," Steve admitted, "but I'm rolling with it."

[fates_jaye]

"Everyone's hyped up," she said. "You're not doing bad in rolling with it."

[grenadesandohana]

"Hyped up?" Steve repeated.

[fates_jaye]

"Wants to bang," Jaye said helpfully.

[grenadesandohana]

"Ohhhhhhhh," Steve said. "Okay. That explains some stuff."

He could stuff those idle musings about the Troopers right into that Box o' Repression in his head where they belonged! Problem solved!

"Yeah. It's a real problem." Only solved by said banging. Temporarily.

"It's not a real problem," Steve said, then groaned. "People are going to call the station like this is a real problem, aren't they?"

[fates_jaye]

"I, um, wouldn't talk to anyone on the phone about this," Jaye said. "Unless you like heavy breathing and/or phone sex."

[grenadesandohana]

"Calvin, Ralph, that is now entirely your problem," Steve threatened, pointing at them.

[fates_jaye]

"It's good to know your limits," she teased.

[grenadesandohana]

"Not dealing with the public," Steve said promptly.

[fates_jaye]

"Good call. Just deal with the..." Jaye paused, knowing this didn't sound great, but she kind of had to plunge ahead anyway. "...private."

Steve snorted. "That's what you're going with?"

[fates_jaye]

"It probably could have been dirtier," she admitted.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve grinned. "Would you like to try again?"

[fates_jaye]

"You want dirtier?" Dammit now she had to come up with something.

[grenadesandohana]

"Show me what you've got," Steve teased.

[fates_jaye]

"See, normally I could say showing you what I've got shouldn't mix with being in public," Jaye said.

Steve burst out laughing. "And this is why I like you."

[fates_jaye]

"I have my charms," Jaye agreed.

[grenadesandohana]

"And they are especially noticeable this week," he said, winking.

[fates_jaye]

"Are they now," she said, like she didn't know.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve snorted. "Yes. Yes, they are."

[fates_jaye]

"Good. Someone should be noticing. Might as well be a hot guy," she said.

"Why, thank you," Steve said, beaming.

[fates_jaye]

"You had to know that already," Jaye told him.

Steve grinned again. "Maybe, but it's always nice to hear."
