So here was what Octavia had been able to piece together over the course of spending two days with Hope:

First of all, she was Diyoza's kid. As in, Charmaine Diyoza, the woman whose people had pulled Octavia and Wonkru out of the bunker and then proceeded to wage war against them for the last living valley on Earth. Charmaine Diyoza, terrorist. Charmaine Diyoza, who Octavia had last seen aboard the Eligius IV right before they'd both gone under cryo. Two very recently former leaders (two serpents) sitting on the floor, waiting for someone else to call the shots for the first time in years.

Diyoza'd been heavily pregnant at the time, so at least that checked out. The rest, not so much.

Because apparently Hope, and Diyoza, and Octavia lived someplace called Skyring. And they'd been there Hope's entire life - just the three of them, in their little shack with their garden, near a lake.

There seemed to be something more, about the lake and Octavia, but she was having a hard enough time wrapping her head around what she did know now, and it was difficult to lead Hope on with non-direct questions when she didn't want to push the kid. And Octavia's energy reserves had been running pretty thin even before this weekend, so...

So, this morning, it was enough to know that on top of really enjoying drawing, Hope also really liked building sand castles. So that was what they were doing now, on the beach not too far from port. Just... building a castle.

Nothing more complicated than that.
