The Park [sunset]

It had been a weird odd possibly traumatizing fun weekend, but the portal had opened back up in the park.

Sorry, kids. Grab one last snack and head back to your home dimensions. It's time to say goodbye.

Was she giving the kid a compliment? Possibly. And irritated compliment.

Oh. Look. She wasn't completely lacking in maternal instincts.

Danielle rolled her eyes. Because clearly twelve year olds knew everthing. Much more than her parents at any case.

"Come here," she said pulling Jessica down and pulling out her phone. "Let's take a selfie."

Jessica sighed and kneeled down so she was more at Dani's level. "I'm doing this in protest," she snarked.

Danielle leaned back against her mom and pushed her hair out of her face and gave it a big smile.

"Don't worry. I know better than to ask you to smile," she said after taking a few pictures.

That hit Jessica a little harder than she expected. She slowly stood up and looked around, feeling uncomfortable. "So what do we do now?"

"Uh. We say goodbye?" Danielle offered, not even looking up as she sent the picture to Jessica's phone. She then pocketed it and immediately wrapped her arms around her mom's waist and leaned against her.

Jessica paused for a moment and lightly put her arms around the kid, awkwardly patting Danielle's back. She also looked around to see if she was the only one feeling horribly awkward.

The kid finally pulled back and Jessica had a hard time looking her in the eye. "Sorry about your weekend," she offered. "Probably wasn't the best time with the cleaning up after me and shit."

"It wasn't bad," Danielle said backing her way to the portal. "You're not half as bad as you made yourself out to be."

She gave Jessica a smile. "Honestly it's nice having a badass as a mom."

She turned to the portal and started to walk in before throwing a "Love you!" over her shoulder.

And then was gone.

Jessica didn't say anything and to be honest wasn't sure how to respond. So she took a deep breath and walked away, avoiding anyone else in the park.
