There was, it would seem, such a thing as an uncomfortable amount of bananas.

It wasn't anything Shunsui would have ever considered, or even speculated on being a thing, until he was right in the middle of it, and that was precisely what was going on today, as there were pretty much bananas everywhere.

Bananas in the meat freezer. Bananas on the counter. Bananas in among the decorative soaps and bananas with the greeting cards. Bananas in small piles by the door, bananas making pathways to the counter and Squishy machines.

At one point, Shunsui had taken off his hat and, when he went to put it back on, was treated with bananas over his head from the bananas that had appeared inside his hat in that brief moment.

So, yeah, there was definitely such a thing as an uncomfortable amount of bananas, and they were living it on that day, and it was very clear that Apu-san had taken National Banana Day just a bit too far.

He supposed it could be worse. It could be something much squishier or unpalatable.

Jessica showed up and cast a critical eye at the specials as she made her usual route to the liquor aisle, avoiding the Cheese Panda. And then a longer route back to the register to not only pick up cheap bourbon but a large bag of Doritos.

"I don't want any bananas," she said firmly as she approached with her items.

"No ♥?" asked Shunsui, with an easy, shameless, lopsided grin as he lifted his hat, as if to better see Jessica and her selections for the day.

"That's a shame. I have it on good authority that it's a rather nice banana ♥."

Because, sure, he was pushing several thousand years old, but he was apparently also thirteen, as he was not exactly talking about fruit, and it was right there and he never really was good at saying no.

That got one amused snort from Jessica. Which, honestly, is pretty much like a full blown laugh for other people.

"Well. I walked right into that one, didn't I?" she said unloading the chosen items onto the counter. "You sure it's not green? Over ripe? Bruised?"

To be clear: This wasn't flirting. This was a discussion about bananas.

Shut up.

Perish the thought. This.was very clearly just a very important conversation regarding the quality of produce and nothing more.

"You know, Miss Jones-chan," Shunsui's head tilted, hand rubbing at his chin now that he was presented with such a question, "I can say I'm much of an expert when it comes to bananas ♥. Perhaps you might have to take a look yourself? To be sure ♥?"

Seriously. Just handing then right to him.

"Right in front of Apu?" Jessica asked, pretending to be shocked. "Maybe he should take a look at it. I'm sure his years in retail has given him a lot insight into produce."

Unfortunately that's much less fun.

For this absolutely non-flirtatious discourse on fruit, touché.

"You'd be surprised, Miss Jones-chan ♥!" Shunsui said brightly, after a small laugh and a bigger tilt to his grin. "At that point, I'm sure all bananas tend to look the same. Difficult to be terribly critical; this might be something that could use a fresher set of eyes ♥."
