Devil's Nest, Thursday Night, April 22, 2021

Well, it was another Thursday, which meant Leather Pants and Sometimes Shirtlessness Night at the Devil's Nest. It was weirdly chilly for the shirtlessness, but perfect leather pants weather.

Eric had his on while he sipped from his glass of Tru Blood and watched the crowd around him as Tiny served drinks.

The Devil's Nest was open, and the place to be if you enjoyed staring at people's butts.

"It's always improved by Leather Pants Thursday," Eric said, "but yes. And you?"

"It could certainly be worse."

Which, coming from Ignis, was relatively positive.

"Here's to hoping we can say the same about the weekend."

"Well, it's not graduation, so it should be fine," said the guy who had been here too long. "Graduation always has something to come eat the graduates. I cheer it on."

"Considering my area of expertise involves the students doing the eating rather than the other way around," said Ignis, "I feel I must professionally disapprove, although, if I recall graduation from last year," which someone absolutely did not and definitely had to look up, "it involved much less eating and a lot more...animals and hats."

It had been a very...strange ceremony, but at least Ignis knew to expect that much from it by that point.

Prompto had rather enjoyed it (a bit too much, but that was Prompto in a nutshell), though, so he supposed that's what counted...

"Hats?" Eric repeated. "I think I was in Louisiana for that one."

"Specifically," Ignis offered, "woodland creatures crashing the ceremony to demand hats and other fashionable accessories. I suppose because they were feeling rather slighted by the lack of haberdashery available to them."

Look. Ignis didn't claim to have an explaination for any of this. He was merely an unsuspecting spectator.

"Oh, I think there was a weird bird hat class," Eric said, "which I realize explains exactly nothing."

"I believe attempting to explain anything to satisfaction around here is an exercise in futility," Ignis agreed, "but at least that seems to suggest a thread of logic...

"...frayed and badly in need of mending as it may be."

Eric laughed and took another sip of his drink. "There's a logic, it's just not one that make sense anywhere else," he agreed.

With a sip of his own drink, Ignis went slightly contemplative as he realized he actually should probably try to make it to the graduation, as a member of the faculty. He hadn't thought of that and was planning on a few uninterrupted weeks in Insomnia to enjoy without the Fandom interruptions before the summer session started.

And he wondered if he should be slightly worried that a part of him almost wanted to just to see what might happen.

"There certainly is no place like this one," Ignis could only agree.

Eric grinned. "I've lived a thousand years and this place still finds ways to surprise me. That's why I stick around."

"A thousand?" asked Ignis, lifting a brow as this information was put into an new appraisal of the man. "You look good for your age. We should all be so lucky."

"All of the cool kids turn into vampires," Eric said. "Well, and some real losers, but we weed them out."
