After wrangling the cats out of the house and giving up on fighting the thing himself, Hannibal called the fire station.

He only hoped they could actually do something before his books and harpsichord were in danger.

"Fandom Fire Station," Travis said. "How can we help you?"

If he sounded resigned, it was because the calls the station got were almost never anything actually interesting.

"I'm hoping you can put out a fire," Hannibal said a bit wryly. "I have no idea how on this island, but I assume you have ways."

"A fire?" Sound less excited, Travis. "I expect we can do it the usual way. What's the address?"

"22 Phoenix Place," Hannibal answered. He was under the impression that the usual way involved trucks, but he wasn't going to argue while there was a fire in his house. "It's the only house on the street."

"Handy." And it meant the fire was unlikely to spread. This guy sounded calm, so odds were against any life or limb in danger. So he didn't have to feel bad for being excited. "I'll be right there."

He hung up without saying goodbye, rushing off to get his turnouts.

There was an actual fire! Reported by someone who probably wasn't a raccoon or a gremlin!

Hannibal might be a troll, but he wasn't a gremlin.

And he'd excuse the lack of proper goodbye, as it hopefully meant the man getting here sooner.
