Around town- Wednesday afternoon

This week so far seemed like the sort of thing where it was probably fine if you could stay inside, but Rey didn't trust that at all. And while there was also part of her that felt like she wasn't the person who could help, in all honesty she dealt with self-doubt and imposter syndrome all the time and then went ahead and did the hero thing anyway.

Besides, at least she had Anakin around in case she fell completely on her face and failed at something while patrolling. Sure, she'd played escort from the radio station twice this week, including this morning, but still.

"I'll be very glad when this one is over," she said, which had more to do with the paranoia than anything else.

"Me too," Anakin said. "Juliet and Christopher are not handling this well, and Rory came back to the house without coffee, muttering to herself about some mirror that showed her engaged to a Connecticut trust fund kid and stealing a boat."

"That's very specific," Rey said, frowning. "I haven't spent much time around the mirrors."

On purpose. She didn't know why.

"They give me the creeps," Anakin said, nodding. "I've been going the long way around and not going to the school."

"I know they have to be doing something, or they wouldn't be there," she reasoned.

[sith_happened]

Anakin nodded. "I'm hopeful they are serving a useful purpose of keeping the students inside," he said. "What else have you found?"

[thatwaslucky]

"Hands that grab you by the docks, and the e trance to the school. There's something giggling in the park, and I haven't figured out what's happening I'm around the warehouses yet," she reported. "And spparently a Steve got attacked by a squid."

"There's a huge troll up by the rocky parts," Anakin said. "Taller than me."

And Ye Olde Troll Loincloth had brought back memories of Raven's weird dad that Anakin had buried just fine for almost a decade, thanks.

"Should we check out the warehouses again, then? Or suck it up and face the mirrors?"

"Mirrors," she said after a moment. "Better to know what's there."

And then maybe smash them with lightsabers like Silver suggested.

Anakin nodded. "At the worst, our experiences can be a lesson to others."

That was optimistic, Anakin.

"Like people will hear about it on radio," Rey said, because that didn't sound optimistic, no.

[sith_happened]

"Exactly," Anakin said, "like how we found out about the tentacle thing."

[thatwaslucky]

"Though I would like this to go better," Rey said, starting down the road towards the mirrors.

[sith_happened]

"I'm not sure it's that kind of week," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm trying very hard to stay hopeful," Rey admitted. The results were varied.

[sith_happened]

"How's that going?" Anakin asked, honestly curious. "It seems much harder this week, like there's a constant bad feeling pressing down on me."

[thatwaslucky]

"Some times are better than others," she said slowly. "Sometimes it feels like nothing is ever going to get better, and I get through that, and then I catch more off of other people, but not consistently. It's like constantly having to beat it all back."

Anakin nodded, looking thoughtful. "That might be why I'm having more problems," he admitted quietly. "Juliet and Christopher are giving my shields a battering just on their own. They don't know what's happening to them and are terrified."

"Does anything help them?" Rey wondered.

[sith_happened]

"Not yet," Anakin said, "but I'm working on it."

[thatwaslucky]

"Distractions have been helping," Rey told him. "Being able to lean into things that normally make me happy."

[sith_happened]

"I'll try to think of some," Anakin said. "Christopher has been incredibly clingy."

[thatwaslucky]

"Poor thing," Rey said, frowning both at that, and catching sight of the mirrors coming up. "It can't be easy."

[sith_happened]

"Every time something scares him, his powers go down, and that scares him more--it's an awful cycle for a youngling," Anakin said.

[thatwaslucky]

"Wait. That's what's doing it?" Rey asked, frowning. Was that why she was only catching people's emotions in waves?

[sith_happened]

"At least for Christopher," Anakin said, nodding. "And Juliet."

And him, because he was scared for his children, but he wasn't saying that out loud.
