Astrid should have probably paid more attention to the date, but, when you were sort of just a Bad Luck Person by default, you didn't really think too much about Bad Luck Days...you had enough of those just by existing.

But when she walked into Turtle & Canary that day to find that, somehow, there was a whole swarm of black cats just casually meandering around like they were browsing for groceries and Apu had, uncharacteristically, left a bunch of ladders out when he was finished using them, and there was a pile of broken mirrors sitting in the returns basket...she wondered if she should have just called off, called it a day, and just stayed in her room painting or something instead.

This did not bode well for pizza later, probably.
