Covent Garden Flowers; Wednesday [08/18].
The 10% off to anyone who brings me a coffee sign was back out on the door again. Astrid sort of figured it was a long shot, that lightning wouldn't exactly strike twice, but, in the event that it did, she needed it even more this week than last week. Not because the flowers were still on their lullaby kick...they weren't, they'd moved onto something that sounded a bit more like experimental jazz...but she hadn't been sleeping well since Monday night, and then there was that call...
Look. Astrid had been going to this school long enough and had enough happen to her while she was here to be a little skeptical and reluctant to just give in to a compulsion to go into the woods when she'd been sleeping poorly. She just couldnt' see any scenario where that didn't turn into a whole thing, especially at the end of a semester. So she was trying to put it off, trying to resist it, even though she knew full well that all the distractions for shenanigans and the complicated floral arragements she tried to put together in the meantime, were only going to hold it off for so long...
She was determined to at least make it through a full day of work before she finally wound up probably giving in and then deal with....who even knew what.
She was just...so tired....

As he stood in the doorway, holding two cups of coffee in his hands, he gave Astrid a slight smile.
"Saw the sign while out for this 'way-too-early-in-the-morning' walk. Figured you must be as tired as I am. Thought this might help" he said holding out one of the cups.

She didn't even like coffee all that much, but still!
"Desperate times," she said, "desperate measures, and all that..."
She gave a sort of awkward smile, because random acts of kindness from relative strangers was still definitely not anything she'd gotten used to or even knew what to do with half the time.
"Thanks."
And, almost as if to chase away the idea of random acts of kindness before it got too comfortable, she considered that the sign did offer an incentive on the other side of things:
"What kind of flowers are you looking for?"

Dwight looked at Astrid and gave her a small, reassuring smile. "I was already planning on swinging by at some point. The sign was just a small additional incentive."

Well, not always, but she wasn't about to go into the reasons why she might need more of it than usual lately. And having something else to focus on was going to help a little bit, too, as she looked around to consider the vast array of options.
"And we always have plenty of bonsai around," for some odd reason, "and I can see a pair of them being really complimentary. We've also had a lot of succulents coming in lately, and ferns, but if you've already got a bonsai, maybe something flowering, to add some color. Like some violets or oxalis?"

He looked at Astrid for a moment before asking "They are fairly hardy aren't they? I don't have a brown thumb necessarily. But it's not always as green as I would like it to be" he added with a slight chuckle.

She hesitated with another thought.
"If you're worried about taking care of it, though," she offered, "there's always oleander. You have to be careful, because they're poisonous, but they can survive almost anything."

"I think the violets should work. I'll start with one of the smaller pots and see how it goes. Should look good with the bonsai."

Not to mention all the ones she'd smashed and then put together different in her frequent attempts at flower pot kintsugi.
