Turtle & Canary; Sunday [08/29]..
Well, Summer's class this semester (or, maybe more realistically, Rosa's class, given to Summer, but she was trying very hard not to think of that, which was difficult when you were pretty much expecting a death trap around every corner) was on a Monday, which was usually her big management days at Turtle & Canary, and, while she had absolutely no problem with working a million and one jobs, working two of the on the same day? Disgusting. No thank you. Hard pass. She was already having trouble squeezing enough hours into the day when she had just one focus, so trying to juggle orders and a class (and avoiding her inevitable murder) was not exactly something she thought she'd like to do, thaaaanks.
Which was why, instead, she was in the store on Sunday, to give it a whirl and see if maybe this might work for managerial tasks at the end of the week, or if she'd just shift it over to Tuesday and see how that worked.
If anything, 'having' to be into work on Sunday did work for a nice excuse to get out of a lot of family weekend things and not stick around much longer past family therapy sessions.
So Summer had a good feeling about this, as she got out her clipboard and started doing her inventory rounds, after, of course, getting up some signs that Astrid had done a great job making around the store and in the front window.

He was feeling almost human (ha) this morning, and he owed most if not all of it to Summer. Plus, he apparently had a literature course (on fear, because something somewhere thought it was funny) to teach, and he was still a bit out of his depth.
So, he followed her out to the shop to have more of a look around and get whatever information he could.
He frowned at the squishy flavors. "Are those...that is, I wasn't aware flavoured ice came in 'chop suey'."

If there was anything there was never a shortage of around Summer, it was information.
It might always be helpful information, or even information you'd want, but there would be information.
"I'll let you have one on the house if you're willing to try it."
Because apparently having gone through the apocalypse wasn't enough for the guy already.

Jon was not sure even an apocalypse had prepared him for chop suey ice.

He looked better! But, well, you know. Low bar.

He was even getting a tiny, sappy smile on his face when he mentioned the cat.

"Told you you were going to love her," she preened. "And, you know, she seemed to like you, too, so, with cat approval, you can stay as long as you need to get set up. Which, actually..."
She whipped out an envelop, one that was clearly addressed to him, and held it out. "I think this came for you and wound up in my mail somehow."
Which she hoped didn't mean that the island was already thinking the stay was going to be a little more permanent, but the address seemed to be just MHA in general and not specifically #4, so it getting shuffled in with her mail might have just been a lucky coincidence.

He was just going to keep fervently hoping it wasn't malevolent. Given his luck, he wasn't holding his breath.
He opened the flap and pulled out a letter; a key fell out along with it, and he glanced down at it, confused, before reading. "'Dear Jonathan Sims, welcome to Malchanceux Harris Apartments. Information on the building's amenities is included in this letter'." He flipped through to see that it was several pages long.
"'We would also like to thank you for your agreeing to act as an on-site manager for the facilities.' What? That would imply that I was ever asked! 'Enclosed is the key for the landlord's apartment on the ground floor, which is available for your use.' But, I...look, I know less about managing apartments than I do about teaching!"

It was pretty direct, if a little...unexpected.
But at least that solved the couch-crashing question!

The key was very important.
"Looks like someone's apartment search just got, like, way easier!"

In fact, the guy managing the other apartment might like a word.
"I have a friend who was just given the flower shop in town for a while, I don't think she even likes flowers.
