Fix and Clean Shop- Mid-day Saturday
Fandom had a lot of quirks and oddities, but one thing the island evidently was not immune to, despite all the craziness, was the oppressive heat mid-day still brought, despite it being almost Fall. With temperatures still high and the humidity annoyingly high, doing much of anything outdoors in the middle of the day was a bit of a challenge. Dwight was 'trying' to be productive in his workshop but it wasn't going too well.
At that moment, he was taking inventory and seeing what needed to be ordered and what other supplies he still needed to get organized. Dwight had gotten down to his jeans and a sleeveless shirt, and he was debating just peeling that off if he thought it would really make that much of a difference. At least he didn't feel like he was melting right then. That was an improvement right?
(Open- expecting one but open to anyone who wants!)

When it wasn't much cooler inside than out, Jon sighed. Then he caught sight of the man in the shop and had to drag his eyes away. There was such trauma there, such fear, and it had been a while.
"I...sorry, I... sorry." Jon nodded, still not looking at him, and hurried to back out the door.

"Hey there. Come on in. Can I help you?"
Dwight looked at Jon, not recognizing him. But then again, there had been quite the influx of new people on the island the last week or so. So it was no surprise to see a new face, he just wasn't expecting anyone to be swinging by the shop. And he wasn't expecting to see someone who looked as... well.. He wasn't expecting someone who looked like Jon, that was for sure.
"Name's Dwight" he said with a slight grin. "Welcome to the island."

Well done, Jon, very articulate.

"Yeah it's pretty brutal out there," he said simply. "You are welcome to come in and sit. Not the best AC in the workshop here, but a little better than out there at least. Can get you some water if you want," he offered, nodding towards the water jug sitting on the counter.

"There you go" he said, setting the cup down in front of Jon. "Have a seat if you want," Dwight said, motioning towards one of the few chairs pulled up at the counter. "No point dying of dehydration and heat stroke if it can be at all avoided, right?" he added with a slight chuckle.
Dwight watched Jon for a moment and then spoke up again. "So what brings you to the island? You don't look young enough to be a student. You here to teach or are you opening up a shop on the island?"

He watched Jon and then glanced around himself with a somewhat proud smile. "Yeah, not much but at least Fandom has a handyman shop now. Been busy the last month or so, which has been nice," (for obvious Fandom madness reasons). "But the island seems hell-bent on it taking me forever and a day to get everything set up and all the inventory in place."

"Fandom is a bit... ummm... unique. Could say magical in a way. So the mundane stuff might not be as big a deal as you may think. But if something comes up, you can give me a call and I'll do what I can to help."

He put the card in his pocket and sipped his water in lieu of having anything else to say.

Dwight took a drink of his own water and watched Jon for a moment before he spoke up again.
"So, you're here to teach. Where are you coming to Fandom from? Got any family back home?"

Dwight sighed for a moment, as if he was trying to decide if he should say what he was about to say. "My ex left me when I came home injured from serving overseas. Said it was because she was 'tired of dealing with it all'. And my daughter... she died a year ago. Well a year ago in my time anyways."
Dwight's gaze shifted from Jon to the small photo that sat on the counter that had one of the last photos he had of him and Lizzie together.

"Hey, it's ok, you don't have to run off. You're welcome to stay, I don't mind. If you need to go, I understand though, and look forward to seeing ya around the island again."

He was going to leave now. Really. He managed a couple shaky steps toward the door.

He watched as Jon made like he was heading for the door.
"Won't stop you. Couldn't if I tried could I?" he asked, looking at Jon for a moment. "But just so you know, if shop door's open you are always welcome to drop by, anytime. Including now."

Dwight considered the man standing across from him for a moment, waiting until he looked at least a little calmer.
"Then maybe you need to have someone listen while you talk instead," he said simply, his voice firm but not patronizing.

"See ya Jon...until our next run in" he said softly.
With a sigh, Dwight turned and went back to work.
