Furnado Animal Shelter; Monday [09/06].
Sakaki had had a rather eventful if handwavey weekend, and she felt like maybe she needed some time to process it all, but she had to go into work today, so hopefully she would have some downtime to do just that instead of hopping right into the next weird thing.
Because it had started out very well, once you got past the fact that one of her instructors was just a small shouty boy bent on evil, but that instructor had tasked her and Kiem with taking care of the dog, which was pretty much the best thing ever, even if she had other classes to get through first before she could join her classmate in watching the dog.
And then, on Saturday, something terrible had happened! The dog had just disappeared! They had spent the whole day, practically, looking for the puppy, searching high and low, but to no avail! Thankfully, they hadn't run into Small Shouty Instructor in the meantime, either, but since Saturday yeilded no results and, on Sunday, Sakaki was clearly distracted by apparently her Very Big and Adorable Birthday Party...there was a good chance that the dog was long gone by now, and their simple instructions for the class had failed. At least they would have until Friday to figure out how they would break the news...
It was while Sakaki was getting particularly sad about this detail and where the poor pup had gone, that she looked up to see a familiar face looking back at her from the puppy pen. She blinked, sitting up straight, hardly able to believe her eyes.
"Colonel Bahamutt!" she realized, dashing out from behind the counter where she sat to go to him. "You came back!"
This was not, in fact, Colonel Bahamutt, because Colonel Bahamutt had never actually existed. It was, however, a rather happy coincidence that there was a puppy at the shelter that almost exactly resembled Colonel Bahamutt to a T. Sakaki was just relieved that someone had apparently found the lost dog and done what any good person would do by returning him to the shelter so that either he could be cared for or his own could come find him, and that he seemed to be in very good shape, and that his adventure clearly hadn't been too traumatic, and once she was done showering the dog with affection, she texted Kiem to let him know that she found their charge, he was healthy and doing well at the animal shelter, and so they had not failed their assignment after all!
Well, not entirely.
Losing the dog in the first place wasn't great, but everything worked out in the end!
Furnado is open!

What a relief! He had worried about the dog since Saturday, and now he hurried through the door.
"Sakaki!"

The new Colonel Bahamutt took a moment to lean in and lick Sakaki's face, which instantly filled with pink from the effort of having to contain herself over the pure cuteness of that now that someone else was there.
"He must have had a very thrilling adventure!"
[[ lol sorry. work was...well. work -_- ]]

"Did you just find him here?"

She paused a moment, still mildly mystified by the coincidence, and then tilted her head fondly at the dog.
"I suppose someone must have found him," she explained, "and turned him in. I'll have to check in with the vet or maybe our logs to see who it was, so that we can make sure to properly thank them."
And then they should probably see about getting the Colonel to his rightful owner, but she was a little...less eager to take care of that part, and not only because she would rather put off having to be shouted at by a small child again!

"We should try to find out who it was," Kiem agreed, letting Colonel Bahamutt lick his face too.
"Have you fed him? I mean, of course you have, but do you think he's hungry now?"

Kiem got to his feet and Colonel Bahamutt, as he was guessing what they had talked about trotted after him towards the cabinets.
"You won't get all of the food there," Kiem told the dog with a grin. "It would make your belly hurt."
The Colonel did get a proper meal though, with a mix of different dog food brands because Kiem couldn't pick one. They had to find out which one was his favourite after all!
