When it came to the always intrepid Apu-san's predilection for making a big deal out of national or international holidays that, quite frankly, sounded entirely made up, Shunsui generally only had one rule and that rule was that, whatever it was that Apu-san wanted to celebrate, he was free to do so and with gusto...as long as he didn't expect Shunsui to help set up, clean up, or participate, unless it involved either booze, beautiful women, or napping, the three pillars of his whole personality beyond which absolutely nothing deeper or more meaningful existed...

...ahem.

He was feeling exceptiionally glad for these rules when he wandered into the store that day to find that there was clearly a whole thing going on that involved an awful lot of tables and materials and signs that he was going to give a wide berth to, because it looked rather involved...

Shunsui at least had confidence that Apu-san knew better than to ask about the clean up of all this hat-making activity, but he did, at some point, try his luck on the participation rule.

"Why would I bother making a hat when I already have one, Apu-san?" he asked dryly.

And then wondered if perhaps they were paying Apu-san a bit too much when the answer was essentially to the effect that clearly, his hat could use an upgrade.

"... Do beanies count as hats?"

Sometimes, a 'hello' was in order first. But sometimes there were signs (and materials, and tables, and whatnot) in the store that made those the priority, instead.

And since Shunsui's firm dedication to his own hat and to avoiding actually working around here if he could help it, his expectant gaze slid over toward the expert in this matter, their own current resident milliner for the day; Apu responded with a withering look and a roll of his eyes that seemed to suggest that, technically speaking, but hardly, and Shunsui broke out into a grin.

"I am firmly of the opinion that, in this case," he declared, "anything that one might put on one's head could be considered a hat, and so a beanie, by any interpretation, would count as one, no matter what certain self-proclaimed people who don't even wear hats themselves might wish to argue ♥." The grin tilted a little with his head. "Thinking of making one, are we, Octavia-chan ♥?"

"Not really," Octavia admitted, still eyeing the tables. "I was just wondering whether I've ever even had a hat."

The future she was from was weirdly hat-free.

"Well, apparently," Shunsui said, nudging his own hat down a little as if it just felt right to bring a little extra attention to it at that moment, "it's a good day to have one, if Apu-san is to be believed, especially if it's felt, for some reason... ♥. I think I may be content with the one I have, though. Why bother teaching an old god new hats, eh ♥?"

"Well," Octavia replied, finally glancing up at his hat, "it's a good hat."

She had very little in the way of an opinion about hats, so maybe that was more about how odd it would have been for her to see him not wearing it than it was about the hat itself.

"I'm rather fond of it myself ♥," Shunsui agreed, grinning faintly as he gave the edge of it a small flick up and then adjusted it again, slightly, accordingly. And with the proper praise bestowed upon his hat, his attention then shifted to something else he was also rather fond of as he leaned a little onto the counter.

"So, then, Octavia-chan," he ventured, "since you don't appear to be in the market for constructing your own stylish and iconic chapeau on this particular day...what is it that I can help you out with, hmm ♥?"

Octavia's eyes had somehow found themselves flicking back towards the tables, as if of their own volition, and now they returned to Shunsui again.

And she shrugged. "Nothing in particular," she said. "I'll get a few of the usual groceries eventually, I guess."

That was rarely what she came here for, anyway, really.

"I'm just... visiting."

Shunsui had followed her eyes thoughtfully, his head tilting slightly, though it seemed to right itself again when her attention shifted back to him again, and he smiled. "Well, you're in luck, then ♥," he said. "I am excellent at visiting. As a matter of fact..."

Just as good a time as any to reach for that now ever-present jug under the counter for specifically these occasions.

"What good host wouldn't start a visi by other his guest something to drink ♥?"

And that was Octavia's cue for stepping up to the counter, finally. And at least trying to keep her attention away from the hat stuff.

(She wasn't even sure why she ended up looking to begin with.)

"Don't know, I probably wouldn't," she rasped, though it had a wry note. "But it's nice."

"Well, then," said Shunsui with a small breath of a laugh as he carefully poured the water into two sake cups perfectly balanced in his large hands, "there's your free advice for the day, Octavia-chan, for when you do have guests ♥. A drink," he now finished pouring and set aside the jug, holding out his hand for her to take her pick between the evenly filled cups, "is an excellent start to most visits ♥."

"I don't really get guests," Octavia said, reaching for the closer cup. (Careful again, this week.. Deliberate in the touch.) "Except my... guys." Partners. Whatever. "And at least one of them always has his own drinks on him."

If a flask counted? It probably did.

"But I'll keep that in mind."

"And I'll keep this conversation in mind," Shunsui said, as he slowly drew back his own lingering hand with a wink, "whenever I do come around to visiting you, Octavia-chan ♥."

Which he really had intended to do at some point, eventually, he was just very....well...

He took a sip of his water.

"Are we having a good week ♥?" he asked after.

"It appears we are," Octavia said. Yeah, it was a surprise for her, too. "Quiet."

Not that that part was new in any significant kind of way, of course.

"Lucifer's building some kind of new room on the boat, so that's... Something."

The logistics on adding a room to a boat was something that Shunsui would have never expected to consider, and he hummed thoughtfully as took another sip. "Is he?" he asked. "I can't say he's ever struck me as a construction type, but people are rather full of suprises ♥."
