Community Center Class: Making The World A Better Place (Tuesday Evening)
"We're going back to the same near-Earth dimension as last time," Yang said, as she started waving people through the portal. "But this time, to something a little less physically intensive."
On the other side, they'd find themselves in front of a library. "Today, we're going to be reading tutors."
"Statisics show that communities are happier, healhier, and have higher upward mobility in the future with high literacy rates. But not everyone is able to get the help they need at home or at school."
"Many times, kids don't like doing their reading with their families, often because of the stress of expectations from their adults, or perhaps the adult in the room doesn't have the literacy required themselves. So today, we're going to do our best to help out by providing some non-judgemental, one-on-one time with students. Reading Partners, the people who invited us here today, already have outlines for us for what we should accomplish in our time with the kids. We just have to follow their timeline."
"For those of you who prefer not to interact deeply with children, they can use help organizing supplies, making photocopies, and running the sign-in and registration table, where you'll be working mostly with their adults."

During the Lecture
Reading Partners!
Re: Reading Partners!
He had a lightweight hoodie on, as he usually did when traveling outside of Fandom, which at least partially hid the mask and some of the bruises. But children were observant and children asked questions and he wasn't getting much reading done.

Re: Reading Partners!
He'd stay far away from the picture books, just in case, but working one-on-one with an older child made him feel like he was actually making a difference in a good way. It was a nice feeling.
Re: Reading Partners!
Soon as the staff saw him walk through the door they got Dwight busy moving boxes and supplies and also had him help the staff with some long-overdue furniture moving and organizing.
And of course the entire time, there was a big smile on his face.
