Travis's morning had started with a jog. On which he'd found himself lecturing a raccoon about illegal fireworks. Because of course the local raccoons had fireworks. And of course one of them was using them to harass the woodchucks.

How was this his life? Just. How?

Dwight had spent much of the day out and about, the apartment and even the shop feeling a bit on the claustrophobic side today for some reason.

So as he pass by the station he stopped to see how Travis had been doing since it had been a while since they last talked.

"Hey, Travis. How's it going?"

"Dwight!" Travis greeted with a smile. "Well, I managed to keep a raccoon from burning the island down, so I'm calling it a good day."

"Oh well that is definitely a job well done! Racoons have caused enough trouble *Dwight still wasn't 100% over the hole ordeal* so good job there!"

Was anyone 100% over that? That seemed like a lot to get over to Travis.

"I do my best," Travis said. "How about you? Feel like we haven't talked in ages."

[alwaysonguard]

"Yeah it has been a bit hasn't? Things are good" Dwight said simply. "Shop's finally all set up and coming together. Got myself a couple clients too so things are pretty good."

"That is excellent news," Travis said. "You're really settling in, huh?"

[alwaysonguard]

"Yeah, bout time" Dwight said wryly. "Came here to settle down after all so bout time I got to that point right?"

"You beat me to it," Travis said with a sigh. "Of course, you came here looking for quiet. I still miss the constant carnage out in Seattle."

He really needed to start volunteering with a firehouse on the mainland or something.

"Yeah, kinda crazy that a place like Fandom ended up being a step down on the insanity meter huh?" Dwight said rubbing the back of his head. "Could always branch out from just fire stuff you know. Maybe hold a general safety class or something for people on the island? With all these different people and places all smashed together might something work having?"

"Sure! And then get told every class that none of it matters because of magic and superheros," Travis said, shaking his head. "And I'm . . . whining. Am I whining? Ohhhh my god I'm whining."

[alwaysonguard]

"I'd call it more venting than whining" Dwight offered. "And I'm sure there could be a need for it? Superheroes can still bleed and be poisoned and what not. And some of us are mere mortals so...." Dwight said with a shrug.

"Can they? Are you sure?" Travis shook his head. "Might be worth a shot. At least I'm not the only firefighter around, though."

"Yeah, heard you have a new guy now- how's he working out so far?"

[designateddadfriend]

"Good!" Travis said. "Place is . . . very clean." Travis kept nodded, then huffed a little laugh at himself. " Have you met Buck yet? It's a little bit like now I have two puppies."

"Well, two probies at least. Glad you got some help around here finally. At least got someone to talk to and if nothing else boss around now" Dwight chuckled.

"I think Buck would be offended to be called a probie. He was broken in by LAFD. I'm waiting for him to go insane with boredome."

[alwaysonguard]

"Ah my bad, figured he was new to it all, not just new to the island. I'm sure he will find a routine."

"We'll see. It's only been a couple weeks."

[alwaysonguard]

"It can take some time to adjust. I'm sure he will be a regular out and about around town soon!"

[designateddadfriend]

"You mean like I have?" Travis said wryly. "Some of us aren't quite the social butterflies."

[alwaysonguard]

"And what am I? the epitome of a socialite?" Dwight scoffed with a grin. "I can count on both hands easily the people on the island I have had more than a few passing conversations with, and probably on one hand those I would say I am starting to get to know. Takes time."

"You remember I've been here longer than you have, right?" Travis asked. "Like . . . by kind of a lot."

Yes, but the trip into the hole had put a bit of a . . . damper on his attempts to really connect with anyone.

"Well, you are always welcome to come by the shop and hang out if you want. And if a beer isn't your thing, I can highly recommend the Perk for some good coffee. Maybe not Seattle worthy but still pretty good if you ever wanna grab some," Dwight said with a smirk.
