Furnado Animal Shelter; Monday [10/04].
Being a temple maiden for a weekend was certainly....different, but Sakaki was starting to understand that, around here, perhaps, it wasn't actually all that different. But being Motoko had had actually been a little....inspiring. She was just so strong and determined! So focused on her training! And so...tall! Just like her! Sure, the height thing hadn't been much of an issue here, because everyone here was so tall, but it was nice to sort of get inside the mind of another Japanese girl who was also absurdly tall, compared to her peers, and feel a little less alone.
There was....one thing that was less enjoyable about being Motoko, though, and that was the fact that, after a whole weekend of training, Sakaki found that her arms were also quite tired, even if she was back in her own body again.
And of course it would be today that they had a shipment of very heavy bags of pet food that needed to be lifted and moved! Sakaki was quite sure that, by the end of the day, her arms may very well fall off. But she was going to try and be strong like Motoko!
....even if she ended up just dragging half the bags across the floor, which she was sure Motoko would not have approve of!
Furnado is open!

He still didn't know if he could commit to caring for a cat long-term, but there was no harm in checking them out and cuddling a few, right?
He saw the young lady hauling pet food, and thought of helping, but honestly she was probably stronger than he was, so instead he waited awkwardly for her to finish.

And, apparently, it decided to stick around, even in a different body!
"H...hello!" Sakaki called out from where she was dragging one of the thankfully last bags. "Be with you in a..." A grunt escaped her as she hefted it onto a shelf, "moment!"
She took a moment to straighten the bag, breathed out from the exertion, then nodded with satisfaction for her work before walking to to the front of the store.
"Welcome to Furnado Animal Shelter," she greeted with a bow, trying to pretend like she hadn't been grunting and sweating all morning. "How may I help you?"
no subject
"Um." Jon bowed awkwardly back. "I was hoping to look at cats."

But when Jon answered her, any flush that her face had gained from her early exertion drained from her face, and she was filled with a certain sense of....worry? Uncertainty?
Dread.
"Ah," she said. "Y-Yes, of course. We have many cats here, but I'm not sure if today if the best day. For...cats. You see, I....they..."
A meow from the left made her turn her head, where it appeared a small herd of cats had appeared from behind one of the shelves.
It was all a bit ominous, really, at first, until they started purring up a storm in unison and, eye bright, meowed a few more greetings.
And, just like that, Sakaki's legs were as weak as her arms, ready to buckle under the wave of adorable.

What? That's what his cat from this weekend had done!

"No, I don't...I don't think so..."

....only, of course, to witness that cat not open its tiny little maw to sink its teeth into the flesh of Jon's hand, but rather begin to nuzzle its round, fuzzy head into it happily.
The envy that flooded through her in that moment, while not at all surprising, was strong enough to almost make her forget what they were talking about. Oh! To be able to actually have a cat let you pet it instead of just mauling your hand for even trying!
But she should say something....
"Ano," she murmured. "I've never seen one of them turn into a human, anyway. Erm....maybe it would be on their records? Or I could ask the vet....She might know...."
And if she did, Sakaki had to wonder: was that something she should be learning, too? How to tell if a cat would turn into a human? Around here, maybe...

He rubbed the little cat's head happily. "If they aren't human now, I imagine they won't be. That seemed to be only this past weekend. I hope."
Some other cats got closer, and Jon settled on the floor and did his best to pay attention to as many of them as possible.

Amid all her wistful, wishful thinking, a thought occured to her with a blink as she looked at the man a little closer, with her head tilted, especially with all the mentions of cats and this weekend and considering what had happened to her this weekend.
"Did you...I mean, this weekend...were you....a cat?"
A temple maiden was fine, but to be a cat? Sakaki almost couldn't stand to even think of it, how incredibly cute would that be???
(Granted, she figured she would probably not be too terribly cute at all, really, certainly not as cute as most people would be if they'd turned into cats...)

One of the cats stood on his leg to head-butt his chin, and he grinned. "It made me remember how much I love cats."
no subject
"It's hard not to," she said.
And she had plenty of scars to prove it!
"Were you...ah....thinking of taking one home, actually?" she then had to wonder. "Or just visiting?"
no subject
He was happy for now just to be covered in them.
no subject
"Even if you don't decide to adopt," she offered, "you're more than welcome to come and see them whenever you'd like. It's always nice when people come in even just to visit."
