The Devil’s Nest, Tuesday Night

"Perhaps we could spice up the piano a little bit," Lucifer said, leaning against the bar with a drink in his hand and an apathetic Tiny at his side. "Add some lights. Perhaps some neon? No?"

He took a sip.

"Don't get me wrong, I do like the club like this," he said. "But I am missing a bit of... sparkle."

Tiny reached for another glass, and proceeded to wash it.

The specials board simply said MARTINIS 30 PERCENT OFF.

"Keeping it sweet and simple with the special tonight it seems," Dwight said with a smirk as he walked in and took a seat at the bar. "Good to see the piano is back and in one piece."

"Eric and I came to a truce," Lucifer said, by which he meant he'd stopped using the club as his personal processing tool. "But it is quite a lovely piano, isn't it?"

"It is. And it's not on fire either!" Dwight pointed out because you know, that was a big improvement over the last few weeks.

"Any other changes around here since I last stopped by? Decided to finally add some good beer to the drink offerings" Dwight asked with a grin, cuz hey, two miracles could have happened right?

"Actually good beer, or the cheap swill you're used to?" Lucifer asked, frowning at him.

"Oh let's go fancy. Impress me," Dwight said simply.

Lucifer actually deigned to duck behind the bar himself this time.

He set a dark bottle with an ornate label down in front of Dwight. "There you go. A barrel-aged imperial stout from San Diego."

Dwight took the bottle and looked at it a moment before taking a drink.

"Not bad...not bad at all. I mean I'm probably not going to restock my entire fridge with it right away" he said with a smirk. "But it is a very good beer."

"If your fridge is mostly Bud Lite, I don't want to hear about it," Lucifer informed him.

"I'm insulted" Dwight said in mock horror. "My taste buds are not that dead." The fact that it was mostly Old Milwaukee in his apartment was not something he felt needed to be mentioned.

"Can you really fault me for assuming so?" Lucifer asked. He didn't feel Dwight could.

Dwight gave lucifer a look and then nodded. "Ok yeah, got me there...I have had my lite beer moments. But this one is actually really good."

"Thank you," Lucifer said, mollified. "So how has your life been these past few weeks? Nothing catastrophic?"

A sudden power swap, perhaps?

"It's actually been pretty quiet. Went on the trip to Baltimore and had a good time. Just been getting back into a routine and working on some new projects with Amaya. So same ole same ole really. How about you and your people?"

I know you're asleep but I do what I want "I'm not the kind of vampire who sparkles," Eric said dryly.

"Have you tried?" Lucifer asked lazily, glancing his way.

"I have a red thong," Eric said. "I think that's sparkly enough."

"Be careful before the Mormons hear about it," Lucifer said. "They might get you a different set of undies."

"I spend exactly zero time attempting to interact with Mormons, so I should be safe," Eric said, gesturing for Tiny to bring him a drink.

An exasperated-but-apathetic-about-it-somehow Tiny swept in with drinks for both of them and handed them over without a word.

"And you've been in the United States for how long?" Lucifer asked.

Eric smirked lightly. "A while," he said. "They have mostly left Louisiana to the Catholics and the evangelicals."

"Did you really spend all that time in Louisiana?" Lucifer asked. "It seems... swampy."

"Not all of it," Eric said. "I've been in America for a while, but Louisiana was where I could be sheriff."

"What does a sheriff even do, then?" Lucifer asked. "Why bother?"

"Vampire hierarchy, and I know this will shock you, hasn't changed since medieval times," Eric said. "They've divided the world up into areas and those are run by monarchs. The strongest vampires in their regions become sheriffs of smaller areas and we all...wait for the monarchs to eventually turn on each other."

He shrugged. "It happens rarely because there is a large price to pay when one vampire turns against another."

"Has anyone ever informed your superiors that there's no shame in moving with the times even if you are immortal?" Lucifer said, frowning.
