Annie was off doing a Halloween event for work today, which meant that as soon as she had a few minutes to herself, a text was being sent to Diego.

In came a photo of Annie as Starlight, surrounded by about twenty-five elementary school-aged girls all also wearing her costume. They were all facing the camera with their hands up in what was quickly becoming something of a signature pose.

LOOK HOW CUTE THIS IS!!!!!!! It had been several hours since the photo had actually been taken, but Annie was still kind of amazed. This was the best thing about being a famous superhero. This right here.

Diego definitely saved the picture to his phone, because that really was cute. It was nice to see Annie so happy about her job too. Now you've really made the big time.

A few minutes later, another picture followed -- this one was of Starlight and Maeve, each with a toddler dressed as herself up on one hip. Annie and her little girl were both holding a palm out to the camera, while Maeve's little girl was showing off her bicep along with her older counterpart.

this is the cutest thing that has ever happened to me. Fact. anything weird happening there? don't put on a costume.

I am not wearing a costume and I am forcibly removing the costumes off my coworkers. That's how dedicated he was to avoiding nonsense.

You were a cute bat. Well. Until later in the evening. And somehow Diego managed to turn into a cat without the Halloween costume a couple months later.

He'd been a cute cat then, too, but weirdly enough Annie totally preferred the drawn-on whiskers version.

that costume was so cozy AND I got to show my legs off for someone who'd complimented them earlier that week, even.

Oh, wow, long-held secrets coming out. How shocking that Annie had taken compliments from her brand-new boy person into account when shopping for a Halloween costume last year.

maybe a little. I didn't want to be all obvious and actually do the cheerleader thing.

Though maybe she could be talked into that now....

such a shame I turned into a flying rodent. not nearly as fun as that evening should've been. They'd had makeout plans and everything!

I think it's going to be awhile before I'm dressing up for Halloween again.

This year was obviously out, and honestly, the bat memory was close enough that Annie wouldn't be dressing up, either. (Though she had briefly entertained the idea of trying to dress up as something she wouldn't mind turning into. Like a princess! Or a cute cowgirl! Or her totally platonic friend Queen Maeve!)

think of the couple's costumes. Not the incentive you think it is, Annie.

What kind of couples costume exists that you'd want to turn into?

There was a longish pause before the answering text came in.

Ratguy and Cat Lady? He'd barely have to dress up. And Annie could suggest this because it was purely hypothetical. And honestly, after the past year, that was a fairly conservative costume in terms of things she'd wear in public. the one from the 90s movie.

The blonde one, obviously.

...okay that would be kind of cool. And even if they didn't turn into their costumes, they would probably be able to find some way to make the most of it.

Though knowing the island we'd turn into a rat and a cat and I'd have to run from you all night

pollen was great. another thing I think about a lot.

They didn't really need the pollen, and it was telling that it had taken them literal days to figure out something was wrong, but yes, the pollen had been great.

Look, as famous as Annie was, she really couldn't be too careful. Even if her relationship basically took place entirely in a completely separate universe from her work (and, thus, her fame), it was still reassuring to know that some of their privacy remained intact and safeguarded.

Annie had left that morning, but okay.
